Experience in practice nursing is essential although training can be considered.
Please note that this is not a nurse practitioner role.
Employment commencement date: March 2024.

Main duties of the job
- This is an excellent opportunity to further develop your clinical skills. The post holder will be a registered nurse with a NMC PIN, ideally with General Practice nursing experience. They will demonstrate a commitment to further learning and development to improve overall health and well being of our patients.
- Offer a wide range of nursing care provision to patients.
- Work within our nursing team to provide excellent and safe patient care.
- Deliver care within the boundaries of their role, focusing upon supporting patients to be healthy, monitoring long term conditions, health prevention and screening activities.
- Work collaboratively with the general Practice team to meet the needs of patients, supporting the delivery of policy and procedures.
- The successful candidate will demonstrate flexibility, good communication skills, and an ability to work as a team member as well as using own initiative.
Core duties include:
- Childhood, travel and other routine immunisations and injections
- Women's health including cervical screening and contraception
- Wound care
- Chronic disease management - diabetes and asthma
- Ear irrigation.
- Smoking cessation advice.
About us
We are a forward thinking friendly GP practice in a village setting on the outskirts of Cambridge seeking to recruit an an experienced Practice Nurse .
We have just had our purpose built building extended which is positioned in the centre of the village looking after an ever expanding list of around 5000 patients.
We have three Doctors, prescribing advanced nurse practitioner, 2 practice nurses (one who is retiring) and 2 HCA's. We also own the Pharmacy next door with a pharmacist, pharmacy technicians and dispensers working alongside us all supported by an amazing administrative team.
We offer the full range of GMS services and achieve excellent QOF and long term condition results. Our patients are on the whole highly motivated and it is a pleasure to work in partnership with them to improve their health.
Our ideal candidate is an enthusiastic and motivated Nurse who will have excellent clinical and communication skills. We are looking for someone who will work well within a small friendly team and who desires to make a difference to patients and to our community as a whole.
We are also a training and research ready practice meaning we often have students on placement here at the surgery.

Job description
Job responsibilities
The role is to provide high quality nursing services, which includes health promotion, to the practice population in collaboration with the Primary Health Care Team, meeting the needs of the patients and supporting the delivery of the practice policies and procedures. The post holder will work within their professional competence in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and Scope of Professional Practice.
1. Professional Responsibilities
- To work within NMC Guidelines and to agreed practice protocols
- To maintain high standards of clinical practice by ensuring the application of available evidence based research and agreed protocols
- To work in collaboration with the Primary Health Care team to address identified individual and population needs
- To identify and address own learning needs by participation in the processes of personal professional and practice development planning
- To access clinical supervision
- To maintain accurate and contemporaneous patient records and registers in accordance with practice policy
- To maintain confidentiality in accordance with NMC and agreed Practice and Information Governance policy.
2. Clinical Responsibilities to include;
- To manage treatment room consultations such as minor injuries, wound dressings and treatment of leg ulcers, suture removal, ear examination and syringing.
- Administer routine injections in accordance with the practice policy i.e.
- - Childhood and adult immunisations in accordance with national guidelines.
- - Flu vaccinations, travel vaccines and completion of patient vaccination records.
- - Anti-psychotic injections, Vitamin B12 injections and contraceptive injections.
- To undertake nurse chronic disease consultations such as diabetes and asthma reviews.
- Provide women's health services including cervical cytology and advice on contraception and the menopause according to practice policy.
- To undertake investigative procedures including venepuncture and ECG
- To prepare and assist with minor surgical procedures
- To assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by senior nursing staff, GPs and Practice Manager.
- To be responsible for the assessment of health needs of patients and the provision of care/treatment in conjunction with the GP, other members of the PHCT or independently, undertaken ongoing evaluation of the care/treatment outcomes, modifying practice as necessary and documenting progress.
3. Additional responsibilities
- To liaise and refer to other health care professionals, attend and participate in practice meetings on a regular basis, report any areas of concern, prepare purchase orders in conjunction with the admin team for ordering of drugs and clinical supplies.
- To support and participate in the development of practice policies and protocols and the implementation of.
- To attend and participate in practice meetings on a regular basis
- To develop effective communication pathways with all members of the practice team.
- To provide a friendly, happy and positive working environment for both staff and patients
- To work with other members of the team towards the achievement of targets defined in raising standards in primary care.

Qualifications
Essential
- Degree or DipHE in Nursing Studies.
- Current registration with NMC on part one or two of the register as a
- trained nurse.
- Current revalidation.
- Practice Nurse qualification/experience.
- At least 3 years post registration experience in an acute or community setting.

- Chronic condition management qualification i.e. diabetes, asthma, COPD.
