Job summary
Persons appointed to these Clinical Fellowships in Microsurgery and Breast Reconstruction will be attached to various Consultant Plastic & Breast Surgeons for six month periods in order to gain further training in the particular expertise of those consultants.
These are not Deanery recognised training posts.
However, senior trainees from both home and abroad are invited to apply. Any successful applicant would be expected to work as an integral part of a surgical team and would take on considerable responsibility for patients under the care of the Consultant for whom he or she is working. The successful applicant would also be involved in research and would be encouraged to present and publish papers.
These posts provide the opportunity for plastic surgical trainees to gain further experience in Microsurgery and Breast Reconstruction. In supporting the breast and microsurgery consultants. The fellows will be involved in the treatment of a large number of patients, with particular emphasis on Microsurgical Breast Reconstruction. In the event of annual and study leave, Fellows will provide prospective cover for other sub-specialties.
Main duties of the job
The Fellow will support the breast reconstruction service at the St Andrew's Centre & satellite hospitals as required.
The Fellow will be involved in microsurgical breast reconstruction
He/she will participate in breast reconstruction MDT and Risk Reducing Mastectomy MDT
He/she will be required to undertake independently skin cancer surgery, breast symmetrisation procedures and general plastic surgery work
He/she will attend the out-patient departments and the operating theatres as required by the consultants.
He/ she will also be expected to involve themselves in an on-call rota which covers the management of Plastic, Hand and Burn patients admitted as emergencies in the manner normal to Plastic Surgical Units worldwide.
He/she will be responsible for attending to the administrative matters associated with the above.
