Pharmacy Assistant - Aseptic Service
Provide support to the Pharmacy technicians and Pharmacists by the assembly and manufacture of specific aseptically prepared items including chemotherapy. Responsible for monitoring aseptic service stock levels and ensuring required products are ordered. Practice to the regulatory principles set out in EU Good Manufacturing Practice, following all Standard Operating Procedures. Contribute to the overall operation of the Aseptic Unit aiding the Aseptic Service technicians and participate in the training of new staff and students.

Main duties of the job
The Aseptic Service manufactures medicines in specialised clean room environments for patients across Cwm Taf UHB and beyond. The items manufactured include chemotherapy, intravenous feeds for adults and premature babies and other intravenous therapies.
The main responsibilities will include assembling and aseptically preparing medicines, carrying out quality control procedures such as environmental monitoring, cleaning of restricted areas, alarm testing and reviewing these values to highlight out of specification results. There will be a need for stock levels to be reviewed regularly to ensure required products are ordered.
You will need to have an attention for detail and be methodical and accurate. You will also have to have good keyboard skills as the post will involve documentation creation on software systems and entering environmental monitoring data into the Quality Assurance System software. You must possess excellent communication and organisational skills in order to provide an efficient and safe pharmacy service for patients and the running of the service in a busy environment.
The candidate will require (or be in a position to undertake) the NVQ level 2 Units relating to Aseptic Services (or to have recent knowledge and practice of aseptic processes, documentation, computer systems and be able to complete) the NVQ Pharmacy Manufacturing Modules.

Qualifications & Knowledge
Essential
- NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Service Skills/Pharmaceutical Sciences, or Equivalent or able to undertake
- Knowledge of stock management.
- Good numeracy and literacy skills including; calculations, percentages, decimal, fractions.
- Able to undertake additional NVQ modules in Pharmacy Manufacturing.
Desirable
- GCSE Maths and English Language to Grade C or above.
- ECDL or equivalent.
- Current knowledge of hospital pharmacy practice.
- Basic knowledge of the functions of the NHS
Experience
Essential
- Working experience in Pharmacy, healthcare, manufacturing or laboratory, or scientific environment
Desirable
- Working experience in a hospital Pharmacy Aseptic Unit.
- Work in an environment in which hygiene is important.
Aptitude, Abilities and Skills
Essential
- Practical ability.
- Ability to conduct fine aseptic manipulations in the manufacture of aseptic products.
- Attention to detail.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic IT skills (e.g. accurate data input).
- Able to undertake simple arithmetical calculations without a calculator.

- Welsh Language Skills (Level 3 and above/B1) are Desirable for this Role.
