Job summary
We are seeking a reliable and professional Medical Receptionist to join our friendly team on a fixed-term basis for 6 months with the possibility of extension depending on service needs. This is a key front-line role, providing an efficient and welcoming service to patients and supporting the smooth running of the practice
Main duties of the job
- Act as the first point of contact for patients, providing a friendly and professional service - Manage appointment bookings, cancellations, and patient enquiries (in person, phone, and online) - Maintain and update patient records accurately using clinical system - Process repeat prescription requests in line with practice procedures - Action daily tasks as requested by the clinical team - Liaise with GPs, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to support patient care - Ensure patient confidentiality is maintained at all times - Support the smooth day-to-day running of the reception area
About us
We are a busy GP practice serving approximately 14,000 patients. Our clinical team consists of 7 GP Partners, supported by Associate GPs, Practice Nurses, Healthcare Assistants (HCAs), and a Phlebotomist.
We are also supported by a large and dedicated non-clinical team, including receptionists, administrators, workflow staff, and secretaries, all working collaboratively to deliver high-quality patient care and ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the practice.
In addition, we are part of a well-established Primary Care Network (PCN) comprising five local practices. Through the PCN, we benefit from a range of additional roles including Clinical Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, First Contact Practitioners (MSK), a Frailty Team, and Social Prescribers, enhancing the services and support available to our patients.
Job description
- To greet patients at the front desk (Ground Floor, 3rd & 4th Floors) and manage all queries effectively whilst maintaining patient confidentiality. - Manage all patient enquiries courteously via telephone and in person - Support triaging GP to process GP appointment requests efficiently signposting to the most appropriate appointment - Book appointments for Practice nurse, HCAs and Phlebotomist - Process any administrative tasks associated with Role - Action incoming tasks via the clinical system - Process repeat prescription requests in accordance with Practice guidelines - Monitor incoming emails to the practice generic account - Ensure that all messages/information is correctly relayed and in a timely manner - Clear rooms after surgeries - Check waiting area tidy - Maintain confidentiality at all times - Assist in maintaining high levels of infection control - To have a thorough knowledge of all Practice procedures/adhere to protocols - Other Duties - Provide holiday/sickness cover for reception - Attend training courses and meetings as required to ensure you have the skills and information to carry out the role effectively - Assist Admin team with Quality Outcome Framework (QOF)
