Job summary

This is a very exciting opportunity to help make a real difference to increasing access to Adult Mental Health (AMH) Clinical Psychology and Psychological services in North Wales. You will be joining a friendly, welcoming, and growing NHS secondary care AMH Clinical Psychology & Psychological services Department, with excellent clinical and research links with the School of Psychology and the DClinPsych Department at the University of Wales, Bangor.

Main duties of the job

The AMH Clinical Psychology and Psychology Services are seeking to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced 8a (Band 7 development post possible) Clinical Psychologist, to be based and work full time in Flint CMHT. This is a permanent 8a post, and the post holder will work as part of integrated secondary mental health services for adults who have complex and severe mental health needs. The post holder will be expected to integrate well and co-work with their CMHT colleagues, providing specialist psychological knowledge and expertise to the team. As well as providing direct clinical input to clients, this will also involve working through others by training, supervision, and formulation work. It will also involve attendance at clinical MDT meetings, referral meetings (SPOA), and CMHT business meetings, and strategic and clinical leadership.

Qualifications and/or Knowledge

Essential

  • Good Honours degree in Psychology. Eligibility for Chartered status with the BPS.
  • Post-graduate Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS. Or equivalent which gives Practitioner Psychologist Status with the HCPC

Experience

Essential

  • Additional appropriate experience of working as a qualified Clinical Psychologist. This will usually include significant post-qualification experience in the specialty.
  • Additional specialist supervised training or experience for more than 50 hours including case presentations, group supervision and short courses.

Desirable

  • Additional experience of working as a qualified Clinical Psychologist in Adult Services.
  • Experience of Teaching, Training and/ or supervision Additional training in assessment or therapeutic intervention in a specialist area of Psychology.

Aptitude and Abilities

Essential

  • Ability to use highest level of interpersonal and communication skills to convey and receive highly complex/sensitive information effectively, requiring empathy and reassurance, in a highly emotive atmosphere and the ability to overcome psychological resistance to potentially threatening information, whilst maintaining high degree of professionalism at all times.

Desirable

  • Ability to speak Welsh
