Payroll Assistant (3 months)

Location: Hybrid - 2 days in the office

Working Pattern: 4 days per week

Rate: £150-£160 per day

Start Date: ASAP - interviews to occur next week

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Payroll Assistant to join a membership organisation on a 3-month fixed-term contract during a busy payroll period. Supporting the Payroll Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring the accurate and timely delivery of payroll for approximately 300 employees, as well as assisting with critical year-end activities and audit requirements.

This is a hands-on role suited to someone who can quickly integrate into a team, manage high volumes of data, and maintain accuracy under pressure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the delivery of accurate and timely monthly payroll processing
  • Assist with payroll year-end activities and checks
  • Perform payroll reconciliations, including PAYE, NI, and pension contributions
  • Respond to payroll queries from employees and internal stakeholders
  • Support external audit requests by preparing payroll documentation and reports
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date payroll records in line with policies and audit requirements
  • Assist with onboarding and implementation of a new payroll system
  • Liaise with People & Culture and Finance teams to ensure payroll data accuracy

  • Payroll processed accurately and within deadlines

  • Timely and effective resolution of payroll queries

About You

Essential:

  • Proven experience in a payroll role
  • Experience supporting payroll year-end processes
  • Experience with payroll balance sheet reconciliations
  • Strong working knowledge of UK payroll legislation
  • Experience using Cascade payroll system
  • Strong Excel skills
  • High attention to detail and accuracy

Desirable:

  • Membership of the Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals (CIPP)
