Financial Accountant (3-Month Temporary Contract)

Location: Central London - 2 days per week in the office

Start Date: ASAP | Duration: 3 months

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Financial Accountant for a membership organisation to the Head of Financial Control during a busy year-end period. This is a hands-on role where you will play a key part in delivering accurate financial reporting, supporting the external audit process, and ensuring a smooth year-end close across the organisation and its subsidiaries.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the preparation of statutory financial statements in line with FRS102
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close processes (journals, accruals, prepayments)
  • Perform complex balance sheet reconciliations with accuracy and timeliness
  • Manage intercompany reconciliations across the group
  • Assist with quarterly VAT returns and ensure compliance
  • Lead and support a team of 3 Assistant Accountants
  • Prepare audit schedules and respond to auditor queries
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders to gather financial data
  • Provide ad hoc financial analysis and reporting
  • Support continuous improvement of financial processes, controls, and systems

About You

Qualifications

  • Part-qualified (ACCA/CIMA/ACA), finalist, or qualified by experience

Experience

  • Proven experience in a financial accounting role
  • Strong experience with year-end processes and audit support
  • Balance sheet reconciliation expertise
  • Experience managing or mentoring staff
  • Experience working with auditors and internal controls

Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of accounting standards (FRS102)
  • Knowledge of UK tax requirements (including VAT, ideally within a charity setting)

Skills & Attributes

  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, etc.)
  • Highly organised with strong time management
  • Proactive problem-solver
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Great Plains experience desirable)
