FULL DESCRIPTION

Following a recent internal promotion, we have an exciting opportunity for an Orthotist to join our team in Birmingham. The successful candidate will work across our two sites at Birmingham Children’s Hospital and The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital. You will join a busy and enthusiastic team with a wide range of experience, offering excellent support, collaboration, and opportunities for learning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Delivers autonomous, patient-centred care, independently managing routine and moderately complex cases, and seeking guidance for more challenging situations.
  • Applies sound clinical reasoning and experience across patient groups to ensure accurate device design, fitting, and adjustment using clinical and technical skills.
  • Contributes to audits, service evaluations and research activities with guidance as needed, supporting data collection and reflective learning.
  • Manages clinical equipment and resources responsibly, with awareness of cost-effectiveness and service sustainability.
  • Maintains accurate clinical records and contributes to audits and quality improvement initiatives to support safe, effective and continuously evolving patient care.

Skills and Experience:

Essential:

  • Highly developed interpersonal skills – including formal and informal communication
  • Proven record of working within an active, fast-paced clinical environment, demonstrating strong time management and the ability to prioritise effectively.
  • Experience working collaboratively and proactively within a team, MDT and across the wider Trust
  • Interest in service development and/or evidence of involvement
  • Experience working with paediatrics

Desirable:

  • Experience with CAD/CAM or digital workflows.
  • Experience mentoring students or clinical staff.
  • Ability to work within multidisciplinary teams and handle complex cases.
  • Experience assessing and prescribing Scoliosis braces

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • BSc (Hons) in Prosthetics and Orthotics or equivalent
  • HCPC registered

Desirable:

  • Completion of Opcare’s graduate scheme (or similar)
  • Full driving licence
  • BAPO member
  • ISPO member
