Kitchen Assistant

Job Purpose:

You’ll be responsible for safe, hygienic food storage and for making sure kitchen equipment and cleaning materials are kept in their correct places under the instruction of the Chef.

Main Tasks:

• Participate in the preparation of a wide variety of foodstuffs under the instructions of the Chef.
• Estimate food needs, review inventory to assure that adequate supplies are available, requisition food and other supplies from stockroom or commissary.
• Carry out skilled cooking and food preparation.
• Coordinate food service activities to have meals prepared at scheduled time.
• Supervise storage and use of leftover foodstuffs and uncooked products.
• Inspect, supervise and participate in the cleaning of kitchen.
• Packages and freezes samples of all served food to comply with health regulations.
• Operates all food service equipment and machinery.
• May open and secure kitchen and dining facilities.
• Maintains records of food prepared and served and supplies used.
• Assists in evaluating new recipes and products with the Chef.
• Keeping up / maintaining legal documentation to evidence FSA hygiene standards.
• Ensure cleaning schedules and documentation is completed and filled in correctly.

Professional/Experience:

• Have at least one years experience in a working kitchen.
• Catering / food preparation certificates.

Desirable:

• Experience in a Hospital kitchen setting.
