In this role, you will manage senior level relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure we meet all appropriate H&S standards and drive a safety culture within the organisation. You will play a key role in defining and delivering an effective H&S agenda within [Employer hidden] that is both appropriate for the operation and ensures we encourage and maintain a strong H&S framework.
You will drive an improved safety culture across all sites, and you will lead compliance and performance improvement to ensure a high-class safety environment for the team with a focus on sustainable solutions and a reduction in accidents and incidents.
Main Responsibilities
Role and Responsibilities
- Manage the Transport Function at Wigan (main hub) and northern out-bases.
- Support the General Manager in ensuring the safe, compliant, and efficient delivery of the transport side of the operation
- Drive compliance to ensure full adherence to all relevant legal industry standards
- Deliver operational requirements, improve efficiency, and meet all KPI’s
- Lead teams through periods of change management and continuous improvements projects
- Manage resource to enable the department to deliver on KPI’s in a cost-effective manner and hit SLA targets
- Create and maintain a high-performing culture within the driver network
- Lead on the engagement, development, and performance management of existing colleagues to improve standards and quality
- Proactively respond to change or issues relating to service levels
- Work closely with relevant internal stakeholders to ensure an appropriate service level is achieved
- Foster a customer focused transport environment and strive to operate at a high standard
- Seek out and implement effective improvement opportunities
Suitable Candidate
The successful candidate for the role will have the following skills and experiences:
- A minimum of 3+ years of operational management within a transport environment
- Must hold a Transport Management CPC qualification
- Previous management of Sub-Contractors/Service Partners would be beneficial
- Strong business acumen and be capable of articulating the operational and financial performance to the General Manager and Senior Stakeholders both in writing and in person
- Be results driven and commercially minded
- Experience of working with budgets and KPI’s
- Have strong communication skills
- Have people management experience to motivate a team of both employed and agency drivers to perform every day
- Demonstrate high levels of resilience, self-motivation and flexibility
- Must be able to form positive relationships with internal stakeholders at all levels
- Be in a commutable distance to the main hub but be able to perform within a regional role covering the north
