Reporting to the Academy Operations Manager, Head of School and Executive Principal, this is a key role ensuring our school site is safe, secure, and running smoothly every day.
Key Responsibilities
Site Security & Safety
- Act as a key holder, responsible for opening and closing the site (including emergencies)
- Maintain site security at all times, including out-of-hours response
- Liaise with relevant authorities regarding incidents (e.g. trespass or unauthorised access)
Maintenance & Operations
- Carry out day-to-day repairs and general maintenance (e.g. basic plumbing, decorating, minor works)
- Ensure all buildings, grounds, and services remain fully operational
- Deliver a planned programme of maintenance, repairs, and site improvements
- Report and support management of major repair works
Contractor & Facilities Management
- Liaise with contractors, suppliers, and external partners
- Obtain quotes and support contract management
- Oversee contractors on site, ensuring work meets required standards and deadlines
Health & Safety Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all statutory regulations (including fire, electrical, gas, water hygiene, asbestos, and air conditioning)
- Carry out regular inspections, risk assessments, and safety checks
- Take prompt action to address hazards and maintain a safe environment
Team & Site Support
- Supervise premises/cleaning staff and maintain high standards
- Monitor stock levels and order supplies
- Support energy efficiency and recycling initiatives
General Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate records and confidentiality
- Attend relevant meetings and training
- Support other Trust sites if required
About You
We are looking for someone who is:
- Experienced in site or facilities management (ideally within a school or similar setting)
- Practical and skilled, with strong maintenance and DIY abilities
- Knowledgeable about health & safety regulations (including COSHH)
- Organised and proactive, able to manage workload independently
- Reliable and responsible, confident taking ownership of the site
- Physically capable of manual tasks (including lifting and use of ladders)
- IT literate, with basic digital skills and willingness to complete online training
- A strong communicator, able to work with staff, contractors, and external agencies
- Committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
Additional Information
- The role involves hands-on work and occasional exposure to outdoor or physically demanding conditions
- Flexibility is required for emergency call-outs and occasional out-of-hours work
- A willingness to undertake relevant training (e.g. Health & Safety, COSHH, Legionella awareness) is essential
