We welcome applications from candidates who may wish to teach English across a year group; dedicated time and appropriate support for subject leadership will be provided, with arrangements agreed in discussion with the successful candidate.
About the Role
This is a key role within our school, combining the responsibilities of a class teacher with the opportunity to lead and further develop English across the school. Core Purpose:
To carry out the professional duties of a teacher, taking responsibility for an assigned class To ensure the safety, wellbeing and positive development of all pupils To promote the aims, values and Catholic ethos of the school To work in partnership with pupils, parents/carers, staff, governors and external agencies in the best interests of every child
Main Responsibilities
You will:
- Create a caring, supportive and stimulating classroom environment where all children can thrive
- Plan and deliver engaging lessons across the primary curriculum, with a strong focus on English and Maths
- Inspire a love of learning through a broad and balanced curriculum
- Set high expectations for all pupils, ensuring strong progress, attainment and wellbeing
- Use assessment effectively to inform teaching and support pupil progress
- Promote positive behaviour, mutual respect and a strong sense of community
- Identify and respond to barriers to learning through inclusive and adaptive practice
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and make effective use of support staff
- Build strong, positive relationships with parents and carers
- Contribute fully to the wider life of the school
English Leadership Responsibilities
As English Lead, you will:
- Lead the development of English across the school with enthusiasm and clarity
- Support colleagues to deliver high-quality, engaging teaching in reading and writing
- Keep up to date with curriculum developments and best practice
- Monitor and evaluate standards in English, identifying strengths and areas for development
- Work alongside leaders to drive improvement and raise outcomes for all pupils
- Promote a love of reading and writing throughout the school community
