Teacher of English job summary

The Trust wishes to appoint an enthusiastic, ambitious and highly motivated Teacher of English to join a dynamic, experienced and deeply committed department at [Employer hidden] and/or North Brent School. This is an exciting opportunity for a teacher who is passionate about English and keen to contribute to a high-performing team with a strong track record of success.

English is a thriving and well-established strength of the College. All students study both English Language and English Literature at Key Stages 3 and 4, and outcomes are exceptional: in Summer 2024, 89% of students achieved Grade 4+ in GCSE English and Maths combined, significantly above the national average of 65%. At Key Stage 5, English is a popular and successful subject, with A Level English forming a key part of our academic offer.

From September 2026, the Trust will launch the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB DP), providing an exciting opportunity for English teachers to contribute to the development of a brand-new, ambitious curriculum. This represents a significant platform for professional growth, curriculum design, and collaboration within a forward-thinking educational environment.

The successful candidate will be creative, well organised and committed to excellence in the classroom, and will play a key role in further developing English across the Trust. They will also contribute to our vibrant and wide-ranging extra-curricular programme, which includes House creative writing, a House Haiku competition, and a variety of public speaking forums that enrich students’ cultural capital and love of language.

We welcome applications from ECTs as well as those who wish to train to teach. Trainee teachers at WMAT schools receive a comprehensive, structured training programme, delivered by highly trained mentors and bespoke to the individual trainee's needs. If you are keen to develop into an outstanding teacher, enjoy sharing best practice with a community of dedicated peers and have a firm commitment to getting the best outcomes possible for our students, then Wembley High and North Brent School are outstanding schools in which to train.

Wembley High has an established reputation for a strong focus on academic excellence. Over the last ten years we have consistently been one of the highest achieving non-denominational schools in the country. We provide a structured, disciplined working environment in which every student receives high quality teaching and achieves his or her full potential. In 2024, our Progress 8 Score (+1.46) represents the ambition which we hold as we continue to improve the life chances of all of our pupils.
