About the role

Working as part of the Commercial Team, the Head of Business Development will work in close support of and under the direction of the Director of Development, to maximise on the potential of existing commercial relationships and developing new opportunities for growth nationally.

Delivering on growth through capital and non-capital based development, the Head of Business Development will have a particular focus on organic development of Residential and Supported Living services, delivering these in partnership with Commissioning bodies, developers, and Housing Partners. 

Targeted to deliver on [Employer hidden] Group’s strategic growth plan, the Head of Business Development will establish Business Cases for submission to the Director of Development who will retain accountability for achieving board level approval. 

The Head of Business Development will ensure all Business Cases submitted meet minimum expectations in terms of commissioning comfort and financial benchmarks. 

In partnership with the Heads of Referrals and local operational teams, whilst also working alongside the Head of Facilities and engaging Regional Operational Managers, the Head of Business Development will project manage organic developments from inception to operational delivery; delegating tasks and responsibility to deliver projects to timescales and financial expectations.

The Head of Business Development will also support improvement projects for existing services and more complex registered residential service development, where required by the Director Development. 

Main duties & responsibilities

  • Support the Director of Development to deliver growth in line with the [Employer hidden] Group growth strategy. Ensuring development is demand led and collaborative in nature. Providing opportunities for investment in sustainable accommodation and support services.
  • Utilise market intelligence gained through networking and analysis of demand information generated by Heads of Referrals and operational teams.
  • Support the development and maintenance of strategically important customer relationships. 
  • Act as critical friend to the operational teams to protect the reputation and future potential of [Employer hidden] Group. Sharing commissioning feedback and providing solutions where appropriate.
  • Establish clear lines of communication with Heads of Referrals and operational managers to avoid multiple inconsistent messaging and communication with customers and commissioners.
  • Foster good working relationships and shared goals with Commissioners, developers and housing providers, ensuring that accommodation and support models are built on the principles of a ‘Capable Environment’:
  • Develop expertise and experience in service design, best practice in service delivery and quality initiatives
  • Set out clear search criteria for location, style and design to enable partners to deliver property options suitable for the service focus.
  • Manage consultation with all stakeholder parties to ensure service focus is understood, operational skills and structures are clear.
  • Identify contractual requirements and processes to remove barriers to success. Establish costs, fees and feasibility.
  • Provide monthly reports on activity and progress against targets to the Director of Development. 
  • Share expertise and learning with other members of the Commercial Team and the wider organisation. Work flexibly and support on other agendas (Bid management/Marketing/Acquisitions) to manage variable workloads and resource pressures
