The Role
The Hygiene Manager will oversee the operational delivery of hygiene services across two production sites, managing internal teams and third-party contractors. You’ll ensure cleaning and sanitation meet the most rigorous Health, Safety, Food Safety, and audit standards (including BRC and customer codes), while driving efficiency and best practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the hygiene team (including production operatives and weekend contractors) to deliver exceptional cleaning standards.
- Maintain and enhance the Hygiene Management System, including SOPs, cleaning schedules, and verification checks (e.g., environmental swabbing, chemical concentrations, Listeria controls).
- Implement structured cleaning methodologies, internal audits, and continuous improvement initiatives to optimise efficiency and reduce waste.
- Monitor chemical usage, pest control, and frying oil quality (FFA checks), ensuring budget compliance and environmental targets.
- Collaborate with Technical, Engineering, and Operations teams on maintenance issues, HACCP activities, and microbiological testing.
- Deliver training on hygiene standards, chemical safety (COSHH), and food processes for hygiene and production staff.
- Manage team performance through regular briefings, 1:1s, appraisals, and development plans.
- Ensure full compliance with all documentation, audit preparation, and record-keeping requirements.
- Promote a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement across sites.
Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Food Hygiene Level 2 (or equivalent) certification.
- Strong knowledge of cleaning chemicals, COSHH, and sanitation in food manufacturing.
- Experience managing hygiene teams and contractors in a fast-paced production environment.
- Proficiency in hygiene verification (swabbing, audits, documentation).
- Good numeracy, written/spoken English, and understanding of food processes.
Desirable:
- Experience with coated/dairy products or similar.
- Hygiene management in multi-site operations.
