This role involves designing and delivering training programs, building competency frameworks, and supporting talent attraction. The ideal candidate will have experience in L&D, developing strategies, and implementing training programs.

Overall Role Purpose:

[Employer hidden] has a fantastic opportunity for a Learning and Development Manager to join their thriving organisation. This newly developed role will play an integral leading role in creating and executing Marlborough’s learning and development strategy throughout the organisation. They will research, build and deliver bespoke training and development programmes for operational and office based roles, supported by a competency framework aligned to the company strategy. Collaborating closely with managers from across the business, they will lead on employee development and play an important role in supporting talent attraction and social value impact.

[Employer hidden] is an established, independent and dynamic civil engineering company with 30 years of industry experience and expertise in public realm, regeneration and infrastructure projects.

We work with Councils, Local Authorities and Contractors in London, Essex, Cambridgeshire and the South East, delivering pioneering multi-million-pound trials and rollouts for large programmes and phased schemes through to smaller one-off projects.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Develop and implement a learning and development strategy, regularly evaluating to ensure it remains aligned with the organisation’s goals and objectives
  • Develop and embed proficient competency frameworks aligned with the company values and objectives, starting with operational supervisors
  • Lead on the design and implementation of a bespoke supervisor training programme to support employee development within operational management.
  • Lead on conducting a training needs analysis across the company, identifying further development requirements to support future capability needs.
  • Facilitate the delivery of development programmes, workshops and other training initiatives and collaborate with external training providers, consultants, or industry experts to understand how we can best use their expertise and resources in our training solutions where required.
  • Review and evaluate the effectiveness of all training programmes, making recommendations for continuous improvement
  • Build strong relationships with managers, department heads, and other stakeholders to understand their training needs and to create individual development plans for employees, providing guidance and resources to support their growth
  • Working with the social values and recruitment team, support in the creation and management of effective internal apprenticeship and graduate development schemes.
  • Collaborate with our QHSE team to ensure all mandatory training requirements are considered alongside professional and career development plans
  • Work with QHSE and iHASCO to agree on the online training programmes to be delivered over the year to compliment the training needs identified

Person specification:

  • Experience of working in a Learning and Development Manager role, ideally within a similar industry
  • Experience in developing a company wide learning and development strategy
  • Experience in creating and implementing bespoke training programmes
  • Experience in building and embedding new competency frameworks
  • Good knowledge of e-learning platforms and practices
  • Practical experience with MS Office and Learning Management Systems (LMS)
  • Strong communication and presenting skills
  • Strong organizational skills with business-oriented thinking
