Project Supervisor

The Project Supervisor is responsible for the direct supervision and coordination of site or workshop activities within a defined and smaller scope of work. Working under the direction of the Project Manager, the Project Supervisor ensures that assigned tasks are delivered safely, compliantly and in accordance with project requirements.

The Project Supervisor is responsible for the direct supervision and coordination of site or workshop activities within a defined and smaller scope of work. Working under the direction of the Project Manager, the Project Supervisor ensures that assigned tasks are delivered safely, compliantly and in accordance with project requirements.

The role provides day-to-day operational control of trades and operatives, ensuring work is executed to specification, on programme and in line with [Employer hidden — view at passion-project.co.uk]’s Integrated Management System (IMS). The Project Supervisor typically oversees a smaller team and supports the Project Manager in achieving safe and efficient delivery.

This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong technical awareness, proactive supervision and clear communication with both site personnel and project leadership.

2. Principal accountabilities

The Project Supervisor is responsible for:

  • Supervising day-to-day site or workshop activities within the allocated scope of works.
  • Ensuring work is carried out safely, efficiently and in accordance with approved method statements and risk assessments.
  • Coordinating trades, operatives and subcontractors to ensure tasks are completed in line with programme requirements.
  • Ensuring compliance with site permits, isolation procedures and client site rules.
  • Conducting regular safety briefings and toolbox talks.
  • Monitoring quality of workmanship and ensuring compliance with drawings, specifications and inspection requirements.
  • Escalating technical, safety or programme issues promptly to the Project Manager.
  • Verifying labour attendance and supporting accurate completion of payroll and client billable timesheets.
  • Ensuring materials, tools and equipment are used correctly and returned or stored appropriately.
  • Supporting inspections, audits and client walkdowns.
  • Promoting good housekeeping and environmental compliance on site.
  • Maintaining daily site records and reporting progress to the Project Manager.

3. Organisational Relationships and Behaviours

Reports to: Project Manager

Line Management Responsibility: Trades and operatives allocated to the assigned scope of work.

Key Internal Interfaces: Project Manager – direction and escalation, Site-based operatives and subcontractors, HSE Officer – safety guidance and compliance, Stores / Logistics – materials and equipment coordination

Key External Interfaces: Clients and site representatives (as delegated).

5. QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Demonstrable experience in a supervisory or senior trade role within industrial, power, marine, offshore or fabrication environments.
  • Strong technical understanding relevant to the applicable service line (mechanical, electrical, fabrication, welding or pressure systems).
  • Experience supervising small teams and coordinating daily work activities.
  • Sound understanding of safe systems of work and risk assessment processes.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and basic project documentation.
  • Good communication and organisational skills.

Desirable

  • Recognised trade qualification (e.g. NVQ Level 3 or equivalent).
  • IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent health and safety training.
  • SSSTS or SMSTS qualification (where site-based).
  • Experience supporting client inspections and audits.
  • First Aid at Work qualification.
