Senior Occupational Therapist
At Cromwell Hospital, we are looking for a highly skilled Occupational Therapist that can undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner within the adult Occupational Therapy (OT) services. They will provide client-centred and evidence-based assessments, interventions, and discharge planning to adults with varied and often complex needs both in an inpatient and outpatient setting in the Hospital.
Referrals to the OT service are received from the inpatient wards including AICU, Acute Admissions Unit (AAU) and Urgent Care Centre (UCC), consultants, GP clinics as well as other external routes including self-referrals. You will be experienced in providing a world-class service to a caseload covering commonly neurology/ neurorehabilitation, surgery, orthopaedics, general medicine and oncology.
As the Senior Occupational Therapist, you will work closely with the Therapy team and wider MDT and actively contribute to the smooth running of the OT and wider Therapy services. You will support senior staff with their roles and assist with activities such as service development and business growth, clinical governance, learning and development, and supervision.
You'll help us make health happen by:
- Acting as a resource of specialist advice for clients, customers, and colleagues within the scope of your experience and knowledge regarding your specialist area
- Establishing and maintaining efficient communication within the multi-disciplinary team (both internal and external) to ensure a holistic and complete duty of care.
- Assisting senior staff in day-to-day management and development of the Therapy Department and your area of speciality to ensure an efficient and safe service for all.
- Participating in hospital and departmental processes that support and encourage professional and personal development of yourself and your colleagues.
- Promoting and adhering to all hospital and departmental Policies and Procedures.
- Taking responsibility for ensuring Wellbeing, Health & Safety and cleanliness across the department and hospital.

Qualifications needed for this role:
Essential:
- Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy
- HCPC registration
Desirable
- RCOT membership
Experience and Knowledge required:
Essential:
- Proven knowledge, experience and competencies in assessing and managing a variety of physical conditions specifically neurology and including general medicine, surgery, orthopaedics and oncology.
- Previous exposure to managing critically unwell patients.
- Competent in discharge planning and equipment needs assessment incl. 24-hour postural management and ADLs
- Sound knowledge of UK Social Care system and community services
- Previous participation in integrated governance and service development activities
Desirable:
- Competent in wheelchair prescription
- Experience in hands and splinting
- Previous experience working in AICU setting
- Experience in teaching others
