The pharmacy service is open on Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 8pm and Saturday from 9:00am to 2.30pm

The Pharmacy Oncology Department is looking to recruit a highly motivated and dedicated Pharmacy Technician to support the delivery of exceptional hospital pharmacy aseptic services.

The successful candidate will join our committed and friendly team within the Satellite Oncology Pharmacy and Aseptic Unit, located on Level 2 at Cromwell Hospital. In this role, you will contribute to the preparation of systemic anti-cancer treatment (SACT) and associated cancer and non-cancer treatments for our patients.

A comprehensive in-house training programme will be provided, during which you will gain detailed knowledge of our cleanroom environment and the stringent procedures required to maintain the highest standards of cleanliness, safety, and operational efficiency. You will work within our busy Aseptic Unit, operating under Section 10 of the Medicines Act 1968, ensuring compliance with all relevant protocols and regulatory requirements

What you'll do

  • Work as a member of the oncology pharmacy aseptic production team in delivering a safe, effective and efficient SACT and non SACT aseptic dispensing service in accordance with the SOPs of the unit.
  • Perform daily/weekly/monthly environmental monitoring in the aseptic unit.
  • Undertake general ”housekeeping” duties and aseptic unit sanitisation to maintain a clean, tidy, and safe working environment on a daily/weekly and monthly basis.
  • Assemble ingredients for items to be prepared according to worksheet and SOPs. Recording batch numbers and expiry dates, checking for any particle's discolouration or breakages.
  • Produce labels and add charges for the medicines to be dispensed for patients.
  • Conducting a sanitisation process on all drugs and equipment being passed into the cleanroom and critical work zones following departmental Standard Operating Procedures, using the specified sanitisation agents.
  • Routinely compound SACT products including Monoclonal Antibodies & Cytotoxic drugs, requiring developed skills e.g. accurate manipulation, attention to detail, competence & precision whilst measuring and checking volumes and ingredients.
  • Undertake environmental monitoring duties including monitoring and recording of temperatures and aseptic unit pressures to ensure products are manufactured within a suitable environment
  • Stock control duties including unpacking, stock takes and ordering of medicinal products and consumables.
  • Generate chemotherapy worksheets and labels according to prescription.
  • Dispensing and labelling of pharmaceutical products for in-patient/day case and out-patients.
  • To undertake and successfully complete in-house training programmes and associated competencies within a reasonable time frame.
  • Compounding of components using negative pressure isolators and wearing all appropriate PPE.

What you'll bring:

  • GSCEs in Science/Maths/English.
  • BTEC / NVQ3 in Pharmaceutical Science/ Pharmacy Skills/PTTP (or equivalent)
  • Registered Pharmacy Technician with GPHC
  • A minimum of 1-year hospital experience in an Aseptic service pharmacy technician role
