Project Officer - ROUTES

The role involves communicating with regional offices, engaging with partners, contributing to programmatic activities, ensuring compliance with USAID requirements, and communicating results to various audiences. The salary for this position is £35,000 p.a.

BACKGROUND

[Employer hidden], the wildlife trade monitoring network, works to ensure that trade in wild animals and plants is not a threat to the conservation of nature. We actively monitor and investigate wildlife trade and provide information to diverse audiences worldwide as a basis for effective conservation policies and programmes. [Employer hidden], in partnership with the US Agency for International Development (USAID), has been chosen to lead implementation of the ‘Reducing Opportunities for Unlawful Transport of Endangered Species’ (ROUTES) Partnership. ROUTES brings together the transportation and logistics industry, international conservation organizations, donors and government agencies in an innovative partnership to disrupt wildlife trafficking by reducing the use of legal transportation supply chains. [Employer hidden] requires a ROUTES Project Officer to support the coordination of ROUTES Partnership activities. The salary for this position is £35,000 p.a.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Characteristic Duties • Responsible for communicating with regional offices and partners on ground-level activities implemented by ROUTES • Responsible for engagement with partners and other agencies, as relevant, to support the delivery of recommendations to, and commitments of the aviation industry on wildlife trafficking • Contribute to the planning, coordination, communication and implementation of programmatic activities for [Employer hidden] under the USAID funded ROUTES Partnership. • Ensures compliance with USAID requirements • Communicates the work and results to interested institutions including the [Employer hidden] Network, the ROUTES Partners, donors, and the general public and identifies opportunities for collaboration on ROUTES. Specific Duties (indicative - 60%) • Responsible for engagement with regional offices to ensure awareness and engagement with ROUTES activities, as appropriate. • Responsible for engagement with partners leading on the delivery of wildlife trafficking gap assessments, facilitating delivery of the recommendations. • Contribute to the identification of, and engagement with other initiatives that can support the sustainability of ROUTES. • Supports the identification of synergies with existing and/or future opportunities within [Employer hidden] offices from the outputs of ROUTES work. • Contributes to the development, review and quality control of ROUTES material, including reviewing text, budgets, reports. • Works directly with field project personnel, donors, consultants and others to facilitate coordination, communication and regular reporting of activities. • Convening, facilitating and reporting back on calls, meetings and workshops as required. • Reviewing project budget, project workplans, and relevant internal project management tools and contributing as requested. • Provision of information on the project as when required from [Employer hidden] • Represents [Employer hidden] and the ROUTES Partnership with internal and external audiences as assigned. • Performs other duties as assigned. (indicative -40%) • Oversee ROUTES project support staff • Ensure compliance with the USAID requirements of the ROUTES Cooperative Agreement • Oversee the preparation and review of supporting documentation for external audits • Oversee the compilation, review and submission of project financial reports and requests to the donor • Liaising with [Employer hidden] operations team on budget and contract coordination and troubleshooting • Provide training and support on project management practices and project implementation tools and procedures to project team staff.

REQUIREMENTS

  • • A University Degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. environmental science, policy, business management, corporate responsibility) or related field.
  • • Strong applied and demonstrated experience in project management, financial oversight and stakeholder engagement.
  • • Experience of USAID award requirements
  • • Excellent time keeping, reporting and coordination skills.
  • • Good interpersonal skills, including experience working with high level partners, as well as navigating multiple teams with competing priorities.
  • • Experience in navigating complex organizational and partnership structures.
  • • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • • Ability to work with remote teams and across time zones
  • • Fluency in English; additional language skills desirable
