Job Title: Lecturer in Mathematics

Department: Mathematics / GCSE & Functional Skills

Reporting to: English & Maths Innovation Manager

Salary: Lecturer Salary Scale Points 5–14. £29,565 – £43,562 per annum (subject to progression criteria*)

Contract: MC Lecturer, Full Time, Permanent

Hours: 37 hours per week

Teaching Hours: 864 hours per annum

Annual Leave: 45 days per annum plus statutory Bank Holidays

Pension: Teachers’ Pension Scheme

*Progression beyond point 11 is subject to achieving and maintaining QTLS or QTS. Progression beyond point 14 requires achievement and maintenance of Advanced Teacher Status (ATS).

The Role

We are seeking a committed and enthusiastic Lecturer in Maths to join our Maths team at [Employer hidden]. You will deliver high‑quality, engaging and inclusive GCSE Maths teaching, supporting learners—many of whom are retaking GCSE Maths—to develop confidence, resilience and strong mathematical understanding. The role plays a key part in improving learner outcomes, progression, employability, and life chances. Alongside teaching, you will contribute to curriculum development, quality assurance and learner support while upholding the College’s values, safeguarding responsibilities and expectations for outstanding teaching, learning and assessment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver a challenging and engaging GCSE Maths curriculum aligned to award body specifications.
  • Create an inclusive and supportive learning environment that meets the diverse needs of learners.
  • Use a range of effective teaching strategies, resources, and digital technologies to maximise learner progress.
  • Plan and implement assessment programmes, ensuring marking and feedback meet College standards.
  • Act as a personal tutor, providing pastoral and academic support in line with College tutorial standards.
  • Use diagnostic assessment to identify learning needs and implement timely interventions.
  • Maintain accurate, timely records in line with College, awarding body and statutory requirements.
  • Contribute to internal verification, quality assurance activities, and awarding body visits.
  • Participate in College quality processes including lesson observations, performance reviews and sector inspections (e.g. Ofsted).
  • Engage in marketing, recruitment and learner engagement activities, including open events and enrolment.
  • Actively prepare students for progression to further study, training or employment.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

Qualifications: - Qualified Teacher or willing to work towards a recognised teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE). - Relevant degree or equivalent qualification. - GCSEs at Grade C/Level 4 or above in Maths and English (or equivalent).

Experience: - Experience teaching GCSE Maths in a school or FE setting. - Experience delivering exam‑based qualifications (Functional Skills desirable). - Experience providing pastoral or tutorial support to learners (desirable).

Knowledge & Skills: - Current knowledge of the Ofsted Education Inspection Framework (EIF) and its impact on classroom practice. - Strong subject knowledge of GCSE mathematics specifications. - Excellent communication, organisation and time‑management skills. - Ability to work collaboratively and contribute to team and curriculum development. - Confidence using Information and Learning Technology (ILT) to enhance teaching and learning. - Ability to engage positively with parents, carers, and external partners.
