Salary: Lecturer Salary Scale Points 5–14 (£29,565 – £43,562 per annum).

Hours: 37 hours per week

Teaching Hours: 864 per annum

Annual Leave: 45 days per annum plus statutory bank holidays

Job Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Lecturer in English to join [Employer hidden]. This is a fantastic opportunity for an English specialist who is passionate about helping learners develop the literacy, communication and critical thinking skills they need to succeed academically, professionally and personally. You will deliver high‑quality, engaging and inclusive teaching across GCSE English programmes, supporting learners to achieve their potential and progress confidently to their next destination. The role also offers the opportunity to contribute to curriculum development, quality assurance activities and the wider life of the College.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver a high‑quality English curriculum that meets the needs, interests and abilities of all learners.
  • Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that is conducive to learning and learner engagement.
  • Use a variety of teaching strategies, resources and ILT to support progress and achievement.
  • Use diagnostic assessment to identify learner needs and implement appropriate intervention or stretch activities.
  • Maintain accurate learner records, registers and tracking documentation.
  • Contribute to internal and external quality assurance processes, including awarding body visits and inspections (e.g. Ofsted).
  • Actively support learner wellbeing, behaviour and progression, including availability outside scheduled teaching time when required.
  • Participate in professional development, industrial updating and College initiatives designed to improve teaching and learning.
  • Promote and uphold the College’s values, safeguarding responsibilities, equality and diversity policies.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

You will have:

  • A relevant degree (or equivalent qualification).
  • Qualified Teacher Status or a willingness to work towards a recognised teaching qualification (PGCE supported).
  • GCSEs at Grade 4/C or above in English and Maths (or equivalent).

You will ideally have:

  • Experience of teaching GCSE English in a school or Further Education setting.
  • Experience delivering exam‑based qualifications.
  • Experience providing pastoral or wellbeing support to learners.

You will demonstrate:

  • Strong subject knowledge of GCSE English specifications and assessment requirements.
  • An understanding of the Ofsted Education Inspection Framework (EIF).
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
  • The ability to work collaboratively and build positive relationships with learners, colleagues, parents and external partners.
  • A commitment to continuous improvement and sharing good practice.
