Job Title: Student Support Mentor
Department: 3 x roles based in Additional Learning Support, Motor Vehicle & Sport.
Salary: £20,534– £20,628 per annum (actual salary)
Contract: MC Teaching Support, Permanent, Term Time Only (38 weeks)
Hours: 37 hours per week
Pension: Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS)

The Role:
We have three exciting opportunities for committed and student‑focused Student Support Mentors to join our Additional Learning Support (ALS) provision at [Employer hidden], supporting learners within ALS, Motor Vehicle and Sport.
The role focuses on delivering targeted academic and wellbeing support to learners with a range of needs, helping them overcome barriers to learning and achieve success. Working closely with teaching staff and the ALS team, Student Support Mentors plan and deliver structured interventions for learners with diagnosed needs such as Dyslexia or ADHD, as well as those experiencing short‑term challenges related to wellbeing or personal circumstances.
Support is delivered through one‑to‑one mentoring, small‑group sessions and drop‑in support, with a strong emphasis on promoting independence, resilience and sustained progress throughout the academic year. This is a rewarding opportunity for individuals who are passionate about student success and inclusive education.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work collaboratively with curriculum teams to identify learner needs and plan tailored support strategies.
- Deliver a range of targeted academic and wellbeing interventions, including one‑to‑one coaching and group support.
- Prioritise and support High Needs learners where required, in line with ALS deployment priorities.
- Attend at‑risk meetings and provide feedback on learner progress and intervention impact.
- Track, record and evaluate interventions using Digital Learning Logs and One Page Profiles.
- Support evidence gathering for exam access arrangements, including Normal Ways of Working.
- Encourage learners to develop independent study skills and self-management strategies.
- Work closely with the ALS Department to identify emerging needs and adjust provision accordingly.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
Qualifications:
- Level 2 qualification (or equivalent) in supporting learners with learning difficulties or care, or commitment to achieve within an agreed timescale.
- Maths and English at Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent).
- Willingness to undertake mandatory training relevant to the role.
- Risk Assessment qualification (desirable).
- First Aid qualification (desirable).
Experience:
- Experience or knowledge of supporting learners with learning difficulties and disabilities.
- Experience of planning and delivering targeted intervention sessions.
- Experience supporting young people and adults with additional needs using a range of strategies.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Understanding of health and safety and risk assessment processes.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage positively with learners and staff.
- Organised, reflective and committed to high‑quality learner support.
