Salary:  £15,433.44 per annum for first 12 months rising to National Minimum Wage for Age

Annual Leave: 30 days per annum plus bank holidays

Contractual hours: 37 hours per week

Basis:  Apprenticeship Contract, Full Time, Fixed Term, L2 Apprenticeship,

The Role

The Apprentice Chef will support the prompt and efficient preparation and service of meals in line with College standards and customer expectations. They will maintain full compliance with all regulations and procedures relating to cleanliness, hygiene, and health and safety.

Key Responsibilities

Assist with the:

  • Preparation, cooking, delivery and presentation of meals.
  • Ensure the correct quantities and portion specifications are maintained, and  support with pre-service information ensuring appropriate knowledge of all dishes / products for sale is given.
  • Ensure food is protected from contamination by biological, physical or chemical means from goods in to goods out; and that all required paperwork linked to this process is completed daily.
  • Follow instruction to ensure that the correct and safe storage of all food products and equipment are maintained.
  • Communicate effectively and appropriately with all staff, learners and external customers.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

  • At least 3 GCSEs, including Grade 4 or above in Maths and English (or equivalent).
  • A commitment to undertake any mandatory training relevant to the role.
  • Be willing to achieve a Basic Certificate in Food Hygiene
  • Be willing to undertake and complete all qualifications as specified by the course
  • NVQ Level 1 in food preparation (desirable)
  • To have the ability to listen and act on instruction given by other team members.
  • Have an interest in the food industry and have basic food knowledge.
  • Drive to learn.
  • To have a positive and flexible approach.
  • Commitment to quality of work with attention to detail.
  • Commitment to achievement of target level 2 qualification.
  • Commitment to continued personal development.
