The Team

The Edge team within Foundations underpins the performance, reliability and security of our north/south traffic at the boundary between our global systems and the outside world. The team’s scope includes global traffic routing, content delivery networks, proxies, load-balancing, DNS/routing, network security patterns (WAFs, rate limiting, DDoS mitigation), and internet observability at global scale. You’ll work closely with Product Engineering, Security, SRE and senior engineers across [Employer hidden] to ensure our traffic path is fast, resilient and secure.

The Role

As a Senior Engineer on Edge, you are a knowledgeable and experienced individual contributor whose work will drive team-level goals and metrics. You’ll take ownership of end-to-end projects and occasionally lead work that benefits other teams.

What you’ll do

Technical Delivery

  • Deliver end-to-end projects within the Edge domain: design, implement, test and operate systems that handle production traffic reliably and at low latency.
  • Work on traffic-critical initiatives such as multi-region routing, intelligent failover, traffic policy, edge-to-mesh optimisation, CDN & proxy tuning, and DNS/routing improvements.
  • Design robust, well-documented technical solutions and write TDDs / design docs that communicate trade-offs and operational considerations.

Collaboration & Leadership

  • Lead and coordinate the implementation work: break down projects, guide design and implementation choices, and partner with adjacent teams (SRE, Security, Product) to de-risk delivery.
  • Works with their team and adjacent teams (when relevant) to deliver projects and solve problems
  • Own operational readiness for services you ship: define SLOs, ensure high-signal monitoring and low-noise alerting, maintain runbooks, and participate in on-call rotations and post-incident learning.

Team Building

  • Mentor more junior engineers, provide constructive code and design reviews, and help raise the engineering bar within the team

What we’re looking for

We want to emphasise that we don't expect you to meet all of the below but would love you to have experience in some of these areas.

  • Pride in readable, well-designed, well-tested solutions and proven ability to define and run projects from inception to delivery
  • Hands-on experience with Edge technologies and networking: CDNs (Cloudflare/Fastly), proxies (Nginx/HAProxy), ALB/ELB, DNS (Route53) and VPC routing. We are looking for someone who knows what good looks like and wants to bring that experience to DoorDash
  • Strong technical foundation in distributed systems, platform/infrastructure engineering, cloud networking and production-grade services. Comfortable reviewing designs/TDDs and contributing code when needed.
  • Experience in low-latency, high-throughput systems and familiarity with infrastructure tooling (Terraform) and languages used by the company (e.g., Go).
  • Experience of working closely and building relationships with customer engineering groups
  • Experience driving operational excellence (SLOs, on-call, runbooks, post-incident reviews).
  • Excellent communication skills and a track record of aligning multiple teams to solve ambiguous, cross-team problems.
