FULL DESCRIPTION

CG Supervisor

The CG Supervisor will collaborate with VFX Supervisors and production leadership to define and implement technical and creative solutions. They will drive the visual and technical aspects of CG work, manage production schedules, and mentor team members. The role requires proficiency in industry-standard software, a strong understanding of VFX pipelines, and experience in a similar role within the VFX industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with VFX Supervisors and production leadership to define and implement technical and creative solutions.
  • Drive the visual and technical aspects of CG work to conform to Milk’s high-quality standards.
  • Supervise and guide the team in creating assets, shots, and sequences that align with the project’s creative vision.

Production Management

  • Develop and oversee production schedules, ensuring timely delivery of assets and sequences.
  • Communicate effectively with production teams to manage resources, identify potential risks, identify and address bottlenecks.
  • Ensure consistent and efficient workflows by monitoring shot and sequence continuity as well as quality control standards.

Collaboration & Pipeline Improvement

  • Work with department leads and pipeline developers to refine workflows and ensure seamless integration across departments.
  • Provide project based strategic input on pipeline requirements, contributing to required development in tools, processes and methodologies.

Mentorship & Team Development

  • Mentor team members, fostering their technical and artistic growth through regular feedback and guidance.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide constructive recommendations for career development.
  • Lead by example, inspiring a collaborative and solution-oriented team culture.

Quality Control & Problem Solving

  • Spot-check individual artists’ work, providing detailed feedback to maintain quality and efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot technical and creative challenges, escalating issues as necessary to keep projects on track.
  • Serve as a key technical expert, offering insights to both individual projects and broader facility needs.

Requirements

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in industry-standard software such as Maya, Houdini, Nuke, Arnold, Karma, USD workflows and others.
  • Strong understanding of VFX production pipelines and workflows, including asset creation, previs, matchmove, layout, lighting, rendering and compositing.
  • Ability to problem-solve complex technical challenges and implement robust solutions.

Experience & Expertise

  • Proven experience in a CG Supervisor or similar role within the VFX industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage teams, lead projects, and deliver high-quality CG work on time and on budget.
  • Extensive knowledge of visual effects techniques and workflows, including: modeling, texturing, animation, lighting, and FX.
