FULL DESCRIPTION

[Employer hidden — view at passion-project.co.uk] are seeking an experienced BESS Commissioning Manager to join our client’s engineering team, solely responsible for the commissioning management of projects across the UK portfolio. This is a high-impact role offering autonomy, strategic input, and direct influence on the delivery of critical grid-scale energy storage projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end commissioning process for BESS systems across multiple sites, acting as the single point of accountability.
  • Provide input to design teams to ensure future commissioning and operational needs are embedded.
  • Develop and implement commissioning strategies, schedules, risk registers, and test plans specific to BESS.
  • Liaise with contractors, OEMs, consultants, and internal teams (inc. Grid and Construction) to align commissioning efforts.
  • Attend project sites as required to oversee and validate on-site commissioning execution by EPCs and third-party contractors.
  • Ensure comprehensive asset handover including documentation, training, and performance verification for operational readiness.
  • Contribute to the standardisation and continual improvement of BESS commissioning procedures across the portfolio.

Essential Requirements

  • BESS-specific commissioning experience, ideally across utility-scale projects in the UK.
  • Strong understanding of BESS architecture, including PCS, BMS, EMS, SCADA, HVAC, and interconnections with HV systems.
  • HNC or Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent). Vocational routes considered for highly experienced candidates.
  • Familiarity with UK regulations and standards applicable to energy storage systems and grid-connected infrastructure.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple stakeholders and drive commissioning programmes to meet safety, quality, and schedule requirements.
  • Previous experience of liaising with DNO’s, IDNO’s or National Grid.
