Job Purpose
To teach Mathematics at Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, delivering high-quality lessons that inspire, challenge, and support students of all abilities. The post holder will play a key role in promoting strong academic outcomes and positive attitudes to learning, contributing to the wider life and ethos of [Employer hidden].
The successful candidate will have a broad understanding of the Mathematics curriculum and, where possible, experience of teaching across the full range of abilities, including students with SEND and EAL.

Main Duties and Accountabilities
Teaching and Learning
- Teach Mathematics across the age and ability range in line with departmental schemes of work, examination specifications, and school policies.
- Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality lessons with clear learning objectives, informed by prior attainment and assessment data.
- Use a range of teaching and learning strategies, including questioning, modelling, practical activities, collaborative learning, and digital technologies, to meet the needs of all learners.
- Set high expectations for students, fostering positive attitudes to learning through strong professional relationships.
- Ensure lessons are inclusive and accessible, providing appropriate support and challenge for all students, including those with SEND and EAL.
Assessment and Progress
- Assess, record, and report on student progress and attainment in line with school assessment and reporting policies.
- Provide timely, meaningful feedback that supports student improvement and progress.
- Monitor student achievement closely and identify underachievement, implementing effective intervention strategies where required.
Behaviour and Classroom Management
- Maintain a positive, safe, and well-managed learning environment through consistent application of the school’s behaviour policy.
- Promote high standards of behaviour, engagement, and presentation of student work, including the upkeep of high-quality classroom displays.
- Ensure the safety and wellbeing of students at all times.
Curriculum and Departmental Contribution
- Contribute to the ongoing development, review, and evaluation of the Mathematics curriculum.
- Manage, develop, and share resources to enhance the quality of teaching and learning across the department.
- Promote and contribute to enrichment and extension opportunities in Mathematics, including clubs, competitions, and events.
Professional Responsibilities
- Take responsibility for continued professional development and engage fully in training and professional learning opportunities.
- Attend and contribute to departmental meetings, staff meetings, and relevant training sessions.
- Uphold the Teachers’ Standards and contribute positively to the wider life of the school.
- Undertake supervision, invigilation, and other reasonable duties as directed by senior leaders.
- Set appropriate work for classes during periods of absence.
Pastoral Responsibilities
The pastoral role is central to supporting the school’s ethos as a community where students feel safe, supported, and encouraged to achieve.
Form Tutor Responsibilities
- Promote the academic progress, personal development, and wellbeing of students within the tutor group.
- Provide guidance and support on educational and social matters, responding promptly and constructively to individual needs.
- Monitor attendance and punctuality, maintaining accurate records in line with statutory requirements.
- Communicate effectively with parents and carers.
- Record, monitor, and share relevant student information with appropriate staff.
- Support and participate in year group and house activities.
- Attend tutor year and house meetings as required.
- Deliver the PSHE curriculum in line with the school timetable.
Safeguarding and General Duties
- Safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people in accordance with school policies and statutory guidance, reporting concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Lead.
- Ensure student safety during lessons, duties, examinations, and emergency procedures.
- Undertake supervision, invigilation, and other reasonable duties as directed by senior leaders.
- Set appropriate work for classes during periods of absence.
