FULL DESCRIPTION

Head Sports Coach

To lead the planning, delivery, and continuous improvement of high-quality, engaging sports programmes that promote the physical, social, and emotional development of young people. The Head Sports Coach oversees coaching staff, ensures sessions are safe, inclusive, and fun, and plays a key role in building a positive culture that aligns with the company’s values.

Title of Role: Head Sports Coach

Responsible to: Community Manager

Salary: This role pays £11.54 - £13.54 per hour in line with National Minimum/Living Wage requirements.

Work pattern: Zero hours a week including some evenings. 52 weeks a year based across multiple sites in Kent.

JOB PURPOSE

To lead the planning, delivery, and continuous improvement of high-quality, engaging sports programmes that promote the physical, social, and emotional development of young people. The Head Sports Coach oversees coaching staff, ensures sessions are safe, inclusive, and fun, and plays a key role in building a positive culture that aligns with the company’s values. This role is central to inspiring young participants, fostering life skills through sport, and maintaining strong relationships with parents, schools, and the wider community.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Programme Leadership & Delivery:

Design and lead engaging, age-appropriate sports sessions that align with company values and objectives, ensuring consistent quality across all programmes.

Coach Supervision & Development:

Manage, mentor, and support assistant coaches and staff, fostering their professional growth through feedback, training, and performance evaluations.

Participant Engagement:

Create a positive, inclusive, and motivating environment that encourages participation, builds confidence, and nurtures the personal development of every young person.

Health, Safety & Safeguarding:

Ensure all sessions are delivered in accordance with health and safety guidelines and safeguarding policies, proactively addressing any concerns that arise.

Session Planning & Evaluation:

Develop session plans and curriculum structures that meet developmental goals, and regularly evaluate programme impact to ensure continuous improvement.

Parent & Community Communication:

Build strong relationships with parents, guardians, and community partners through clear, respectful, and regular communication about progress, events, and feedback.

Behaviour & Inclusion Management:

Promote and model respectful behaviour, addressing conduct issues fairly and promptly, and ensuring all activities are accessible to children of varying needs and backgrounds.

Event Coordination:

Organise and lead special events such as sports days, tournaments, and showcases that highlight participant progress and promote community involvement.

Resource & Equipment Management:

Oversee the use and maintenance of equipment, ensuring all resources are available, safe, and well-cared-for.

Upholding Company Values

Represent the company with professionalism, ensuring all coaching practices reflect its, values, systems and processes and policies.

∙ Attend meetings, briefings as appropriate and liaise with other staff.

∙ To undertake any other duties that may be necessary from time to time as may be reasonably requested by the company.
