FULL DESCRIPTION

To support the development and well-being of young people participating in sports activities by assisting in the planning and delivery of engaging, age-appropriate sports based activities. The Assistant Sports Coach plays a key role in fostering a safe, inclusive, and positive environment that promotes physical fitness, teamwork, confidence, and life skills. This role supports the head coach in mentoring youth, encouraging participation, and helping each individual’s development.

Responsible to: Head Sports Coach

Salary: This role pays £7.95 - £12.41 per hour in line with National Minimum/Living Wage requirements.

Work pattern: Zero hours a week including some evenings. 52 weeks a year based across multiple sites in Kent.

JOB PURPOSE

To support the development and well-being of young people participating in sports activities by assisting in the planning and delivery of engaging, age-appropriate sports based activities. The Assistant Sports Coach plays a key role in fostering a safe, inclusive, and positive environment that promotes physical fitness, teamwork, confidence, and life skills. This role supports the head coach in mentoring youth, encouraging participation, and helping each individual’s development.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Support Coaching Sessions:

Assist the head coach in delivering structured, age-appropriate training sessions that promote development, teamwork, and values.

Youth Mentorship & Engagement:

Serve as a positive role model, fostering self-esteem, discipline, respect, and inclusion among all participants.

Safety & Well-being:

Ensure a safe playing environment by enforcing safety guidelines, monitoring equipment use, and responding to any injuries or incidents appropriately.

Programme Participation & Attendance:

Help maintain accurate attendance records, encourage regular participation, and communicate with families when necessary.

Behaviour Management:

Support the development of a respectful environment by reinforcing positive behaviour and addressing any issues in line with company processes.

Support:

Help with basic administrative tasks such as equipment inventory, setting up equipment, following company systems and processes and policies.

Inclusivity & Accessibility:

Promote participation from all backgrounds and abilities, adapting sessions to meet varying needs.

Team Collaboration and modelling company values:

Work closely with the head coach, programme staff, and volunteers to ensure consistent delivery of the company’s values and goals.
