FULL DESCRIPTION

As a Consultant Transport Planner, you’ll take an active role in delivering project work, applying your technical knowledge and judgement to help shape development proposals. You’ll support senior colleagues while beginning to take ownership of smaller projects or workstreams, liaising directly with clients, design teams, and local authorities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the preparation of technical documents for planning application and Local Plan support (including Transport Assessments, Travel Plans, Access Appraisals, Environmental Statements, and Local Plan Representations).
  • Undertake data analysis and interpretation, including trip generation forecasting, accessibility assessments, and junction capacity modelling.
  • Develop and appraise sustainable transport strategies, supporting masterplanning and layout design.
  • Coordinate input from multidisciplinary teams, including architects, planners, engineers, and environmental specialists.
  • Engage directly with clients, local authorities, and key stakeholders through meetings, workshops, and consultations.
  • Critically review information, ask questions, and propose potential solutions to challenges in collaboration with project managers.
  • Present findings clearly and concisely through written reports, drawings, and visual summaries.
  • Support senior colleagues in project management, including fee proposals, resource planning, and monitoring budgets.
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to Graduate/Trainee Transport Planners, helping to develop their technical and professional skills.
  • Contribute to business development, including preparing proposals and promoting the company through professional networks and LinkedIn.

Who are we looking for?

  • Experience in development-related transport planning.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly and concisely.
  • A good understanding of planning policy and guidance (e.g. NPPF, PPG, Local Transport Plans, Decarbonisation Strategy, Manual for Streets, LTN 1/20).
  • Proven technical ability in data analysis (Excel), junction modelling (e.g. Junctions, LinSig), accessibility assessments (ideally including ArcGIS).
  • The ability to manage multiple projects and workstreams, prioritising effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to quality, including personal responsibility for checking your work.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build positive relationships and collaborate with colleagues and clients.
