FULL DESCRIPTION
WELDER
The primary purpose of this role is to use appropriate welding techniques, you will perform welding activities to build aluminium welded assemblies in accordance with work instructions, engineering drawings and relevant Quality standards and SHE requirements.
About the role:
- Always work safely, ensuring compliance with Company Health, Safety and Environmental policies, legislation and regulations.
- Maintain a safe and efficient working area in accordance with the 5S requirements.
- Plan and prepare welding activities identifying and reporting any Health & Safety hazards prior to the commencement of work.
- Weld various joint configurations in various positions to BS EN ISO 10042, follow work instructions, in Welding Procedure Specification WPS, sequence, completing tasks and procedural tests satisfying production schedules to the required quality level and within the specified timescale.
- Ensure safe handling of aluminium, weld seam and dimensional accuracy meets the drawing and welding specifications.
- Ensure through visual / non-destructive inspection that the welded finished component conforms to the drawing and requirements.
- Perform crane operation and lifting tasks in accordance with safe working practices and instructions.
- Remove material using manual powered and non-powered hand tools, before and during welding to remove defects within the preparation and weld deposit.
- Remove and dress bracings, strong‐backs, run-on/run-off tabs and alignment aids, and dress finished external weld surfaces using manual powered and non‐powered hand tools.
- Restore the work area and equipment to a safe and reliable condition on completion of welding including the remediation and recycling of bracings, strong‐backs and alignment aids.
- Monitor the use of consumables and adjust quantities issued, and return unused consumables for re-conditioning, re‐use or disposal.
- Complete production documentation and reporting at the appropriate stages of the work activity booking of hours on a MRP (Materials Requirements Planning) system, SAP.
- Comply with any qualification and certification tests as required.
What we’re looking for:
- A minimum of 12 months welding / fabrication experience working autonomously fabricating welded aluminium assemblies in a heavy manufacturing or fabrication environment within a recognised Company that complies to, BS EN 1090-1, BS EN ISO [3834-1.BS](http://3834-1.BS) EN ISO 9001 and Quality Management System (WQMS, Quality Assurance/Quality Control).
- Good understanding of welding plant operation, the various types and welding consumables.
- Experience in the use of primarily MIG (MAG and TIG desirable) welding systems including working with aluminium and special applications/requirements to achieve quality to BS EN ISO 10042, Quality levels for imperfections.
- Demonstrable understanding of welding / fabrication of complex assemblies including the equipment and materials used, their behaviour during the welding processes in relation to the structure of materials, resultant properties and stress aspects.
- Demonstrable ability to read, understand and translate specifications, BS EN ISO 10042, technical drawings, work instructions and WPS/NDT Methods.
- Demonstrable understanding of, and identification of welding defects.
- Demonstrable understanding of Quality, Safety and Environmental systems and processes.
