The Assistant Coach and Recruitment Coordinator will report directly to the Women’s Chief Coach on all day-to-day matters, with oversight from the Committee via the Rowing Management Group. They will organise, manage and assist leading the Women’s sweep and sculling rowing programmes at the Club. This is a fantastic opportunity for a talented coach who is looking to showcase their ability at the highest level.

OBJECTIVES

  • Develop women’s sweep and sculling athletes and coaches to reach GB Rowing Team and Olympic/World Championship levels.
  • Foster a high-performance culture where athletes and coaches strive for excellence.
  • Deliver successful results at major events including Henley Royal Regatta.
  • Work collaboratively to recruit future talent, maintain safety and wellbeing, and uphold the Club’s national and international reputation.

THE ROLE

As the Women’s Assistant Coach & Recruitment Coordinator, you will support the growth of Leander’s high-performance programme by coaching elite female athletes and leading the talent recruitment strategy. You’ll be instrumental in shaping the training environment, supporting athlete wellbeing, and promoting Leander as a centre of rowing excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver structured training programmes and provide technical coaching across all development stages.
  • Monitor athlete progression using testing, assessment, and data analysis tools.
  • Work with support staff (e.g. physiologists, physios, nutritionists) to create a world-class training environment.
  • Ensure compliance with safeguarding, health & safety, and clean sport standards.
  • Support planning, administration, and logistics for training, trials, camps and competitions.
  • Maintain Leander’s equipment and support efficient asset management.
  • Lead recruitment outreach:
  • Build strong links with schools, clubs and universities.
  • Promote the “Row for Leander” pathway through visits, social media, and one-to-one engagement.
  • Track and nurture talent through their junior and university careers.
  • Represent the Club at national and international events.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Provide content for Leander’s website, social media and race reports.
  • Champion and share athlete stories to celebrate success and inspire engagement.
  • Work with House staff to support crew food provision, dorm room management and athlete logistics.
  • Maintain clear records on athlete training, accommodation and nutrition.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential:

  • Significant coaching experience at a top club or international level.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and team-building skills.
  • Proven experience in athlete recruitment and external relations.
  • Excellent organisation and logistical management abilities.
  • British Rowing Senior Club Coach (Level 3) or equivalent.
  • Driving licence and flexibility to travel.
  • Motivated, personable, and committed to ongoing professional development.

Desirable:

  • RYA Level II launch driving certificate
  • Trailer driving experience
  • First Aid qualification
  • Media trained or confident in creating digital content
  • Background in sports science (nutrition, physiology, psychology, biomechanics)
  • Familiarity with British Rowing RowSafe and UKAD Clean Sport guidelines
