Compliance Officer

We are recruiting for a proactive, detail-oriented professional with a passion for safety, compliance and sustainability, who thrives on supporting audits, monitoring regulations, and driving continuous improvement in a dynamic manufacturing environment.

Main Responsibilities & Duties

  • Regulatory and Environmental Compliance
  • • Conduct the Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) gap analysis and support compliance with ESOS requirements.
  • • Oversee and maintain the company's Energy Management System.
  • • Monitor the company's carbon footprint and recommend measures to reduce environmental impact.
  • • Ensure company compliance with the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) regulations.
  • • Manage and oversee the company's obligations relating to Plastic Packaging Tax, including data collection, record keeping, and reporting.
  • • Ensure compliance with Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) legislation, including packaging data submissions.
  • • Ensure compliance with OEKO-TEX guidelines and maintain associated documentation.
  • • Ensure company compliance with Anti-Modern Slavery legislation.
  • Compliance Monitoring and Reporting
  • • Monitor compliance registers and track updates to relevant legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • • Maintain accurate regulatory reporting records and compliance documentation.
  • • Support the preparation for external audits, inspections, and regulatory reviews.
  • • Assist with internal audits related to compliance and management systems.
  • System and Process Support
  • • Assist with the company’s transition and implementation of Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365) systems where relevant to compliance processes.
  • Health and Safety Support
  • • Work closely with the Health & Safety department to support compliance and operational safety, including:
  • • Assisting with the preparation and review of risk assessments.
  • • Drafting and reviewing safe working practices and Safe Systems of Work (SSOW).
  • • Collecting the latest Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and supporting the preparation of COSHH assessments, as well as maintaining the chemical inventory.
  • • Supporting Display Screen Equipment (DSE) assessments, including distribution and response tracking.
  • • Assisting with driver checks, vehicle safety checks, and transport compliance where applicable.
  • • Maintaining health and safety documentation and records.
  • • Supporting workplace inspections and safety audits.
  • • Assisting with accident and incident investigations, including maintaining investigation records.
  • • Monitoring corrective actions and supporting ongoing compliance improvements.
  • • Maintaining employee training records related to compliance and safety.

Essential Criteria:

  • • Previous experience in a compliance, regulatory, or H&S role within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • • NEBOSH Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (or equivalent).
  • • Good understanding of UK regulatory, environmental, packaging, and product-related legislation, and health & safety legislation.
  • • Experience preparing for or supporting internal and external audits.
  • • Experience completing or supporting risk assessments, COSHH assessments, and safe systems of work.
  • • Ability to interpret legislation and maintain compliance records, registers, and reports.
  • • Strong organisation, analytical, and communication skills, with the ability to work across departments.
  • • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, for compliance data management and reporting.

Desirable Criteria:

  • • Experience with chemical compliance or COSHH management.
  • • Experience working with quality or environmental management systems (e.g., ISO standards).
  • • Experience using ERP systems such as Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365).
