The role involves collaborating with various teams to create high-quality 3D models, textures, and lighting, optimizing assets, and staying updated with industry trends. The studio is hybrid, with in-office work Tuesday through Thursday.

[Employer hidden] is an independent video game developer based in Hackney Wick, East London, founded by Jamie Walker and Sefton Hill, previous founders of Rocksteady and the creative leadership team of Rocksteady’s Batman Arkham series.

Growing to a maximum of 100 people over the next few years, we’re doing things differently at Hundred Star, so we can focus on making great games and building meaningful connections with those we work with.

We’re looking for a Advanced Environment Artist to join our growing studio and highly skilled Environment Art team, to support in create visually stunning and immersive worlds for our players to explore within our video games.

In this role, you will use your creative and technical skills, in collaboration with members of other disciplines, to shape the space and wider experience of the game. This is an opportunity to showcase your creativity and make a significant impact on the graphical quality of our games.

*We’re a hybrid studio, with everyone working in studio Tuesday through Thursday, with Mondays and Fridays open to WFH within the UK.*

In this role you will:

  • Collaborate closely with the Art Director, Artists, Level Designers, and other team members to conceptualize and create breathtaking realistic environments that align with the game's vision and art style.
  • Create high-quality, photorealistic 3D models, textures, and materials for various environmental assets (e.g., landscapes, buildings, props, foliage, etc.) using industry-standard software and tools.
  • Implement and refine level lighting, ensuring seamless integration with the overall visual style and gameplay requirements.
  • Optimize environment assets for performance and memory limitations without compromising visual quality.
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions and provide creative inputs during the game development process.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to other artists, helping them develop their skills and meet project goals.
  • Stay updated with industry trends, techniques, and tools related to environment art, and recommend and implement improvements accordingly.
  • Collaborate with the Technical Art team to identify and resolve technical challenges related to environment creation.

What we’re looking for:

  • Familiarity working with 3D software such as Blender/3DS Max/Maya and have good technical understanding of game engines.
  • Strong understanding for gameplay and level design.
  • A self-motivated and proactive approach to improving your craft.
  • Someone who thrives working in a team environment, sharing ideas and learning from others.
  • Comfortable collaborating with colleagues across different departments, and confident communicating and presenting your ideas and observations.
  • Commitment to upholding a friendly and inclusive work environment.
  • Experience and interest in procedural generation techniques and tools (e.g., Houdini, Substance Designer) would be advantageous.
