FULL DESCRIPTION

As JDR's exciting expansion into Cambois, Blyth continues to gain momentum, we are looking to recruit a Maintenance Controls Technician to join our team. This is a fantastic opportunity to be involved in the startup of JDR’s brand new facility in Cambois, Blyth. Reporting to the Maintenance Team Leader, the Controls Maintenance Technician will maintain and repair equipment within designated areas to ensure that production priorities are met, and equipment performs to its optimum capacity. Equipment includes rotating equipment, stranders, extrusion lines, armourers and carousels.

Reporting to the Maintenance Team Leader, the main responsibilities of the role include:

  • Safety First – promotes and adheres to the JDR safety policies and procedures.
  • Define, plan, perform and document all maintenance activities utilizing the site CMMS system and other appropriate systems
  • Carry out diagnosis of faults, planned maintenance and repairs to all types of plant and equipment in a safe, timely and professional manner and return equipment to operational service
  • Estimate length of time required to complete a job and likely consequences of failure to complete work within required timescales
  • Identify and escalate any activity that has the potential to cause harm or damage
  • Report breakdown root causes, equipment faults and concerns to management
  • Assist in the development of planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schedules
  • Carry out PPM schedules as necessary and planned work orders as required and provide feedback to develop the system
  • Contractor management, supervise external contractors and equipment vendors, reviewing of risk assessments and method statements, completing permits and isolations utilizing site LOTO procedures
  • Attend training courses where necessary to ensure personal job skills keep pace with technical developments
  • Proactively engage in continuous improvement activities relating to productively and safety
  • Develop, follow, review and update documentation such a maintenance plans, task lists, standard operating procedures, change control tasks, equipment service reports, risk assessments and method statements

To be successful in this role, you will have a strong working knowledge of control systems, with an emphasis on troubleshooting and diagnostics. This encompasses understanding the principles behind automated systems, the ability to identify and rectify issues related to sensors, actuators, drives, and controllers, and familiarity with control strategies such as PID. Practical experience in diagnosing hardware and software anomalies interfacing with PLCs and Variable Frequency Drives.

You will be time served in similar role and/or qualified to ONC, A Levels, City & Guilds level 3, BTec National Diploma Level 3, IVQ Technician Diploma or equivalent NVQ level 3 qualification.

A practical approach to problem solving and substantial experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment is also required to be successful in this role along with a commercial understanding of the impact of failure/downtime on production and ultimately customer delivery.

The successful candidate will also be able to read and interpret engineering drawings and hold an understanding of lean manufacturing including the 5S process. In addition, the candidate will be able to work under minimum supervision with the ability to communicate effectively with staff at all levels.
