You don’t need to have experience of parenting or working with children - significant training and support can be provided – but we welcome those with prior experience to consider utilising their skills as foster carers. We welcome carers from all backgrounds. Types of Fostering Fostering is something you can do short-term or long term, some of the time or all of the time. Here are some examples of the types of fostering we offer:

  • Short breaks
  • Short-term fostering
  • Long-term fostering
  • Community fostering
  • Specialist foster care
  • We also assess for Supported Lodgings (Care Leavers Aged 18-25)

Fees and Allowances Our payments consist of two parts: a weekly allowance to cover the child’s needs, and a tiered fee. Both are dependent upon the needs of the child or children in your care, and the skills and experience you have to meet these needs. Essential Criteria

  • Have a spare bedroom if caring for a child aged 3 or older
  • Be aged 21 or older
  • Non-smoking household if fostering children under 5
  • Live within 50 miles of Newcastle
  • Resilience and dedication
  • Willingness and ability to care for children
  • Willingness to work with professionals and families
  • Commitment to ongoing training, development and meeting fostering standards
