The role involves coaching, team leadership, and contributing to the school's pastoral and co-curricular life.

Football and Sport at Lancing
Lancing has a proud footballing history. It is one of the oldest games played at the College, and one with strong OL links. Lancing has a broad fixture list that includes playing all local rivals as well as matches slightly further afield and also against touring and adult teams. Fixtures take place mainly on Saturdays, but midweek games are also evident in the calendar.
The college fields fourteen teams during the Advent term. As the biggest sports offering at Lancing, football now continues competitively into the Lent Term and there are further footballing opportunities for boys and girls within the co-curricular program between 4pm and 6pm each day.
The principal team sports are: Advent Term – Football (boys), Hockey (girls); Lent Term – Hockey (boys), Netball (girls); Summer Term – Cricket, Tennis, Football (girls) and athletics. A wide range of sports is on offer within our Games/PE and co-curricular programme – Aerobics, Badminton, Basketball, Climbing, Cross-Country, climbing, Eton Fives, Fencing, Golf, Karate, Rugby, Sailing, Shooting, Squash, Swimming, Volleyball and Water Polo.
The Appointment
From September 2026, we are seeking to appoint a full-time Lead Coach with a particular specialism in football, to develop the sporting excellence of pupils across both [Employer hidden] and its feeder Prep Schools. The postholder will be expected to develop pupils of all ages and abilities as well as to contribute to the pastoral and co-curricular life of the school.
We welcome applications from candidates with a high level of experience in both playing and coaching football with a proven track record in coaching across the age and ability range. The successful candidate will be an inspiring, self‑motivated, and enthusiastic coach who communicates effectively with both pupils and staff.
Position: Lead Coach (Football)
Responsible to: Head of Football and Director of Sport
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
- To plan, prepare and deliver coaching sessions in line with [Employer hidden]’s football coaching curriculum.
- To lead coaching sessions and a Junior A-team (U14 or U15) on matchdays (Advent Term), this will include fixtures on Saturday afternoons.
- To lead football coaching sessions at our Prep schools and to coach an appropriate team (U11-U13) on matchdays (Wednesday afternoon fixtures).
- To identify talented pupils at the Prep school and encourage a smooth football transition from Prep to Senior School.
- To lead the Senior Girls (U18) 1st XI and work with the Head of Football to develop girls’ football at Lancing.
- To assist in the delivery of other sports played at Lancing as required.
- To ensure that pupils exhibit high standards of discipline and behaviour during all football sessions and matches.
- To be responsible for maintenance and organisation of all equipment.
- To support the Head of Football in selecting teams, organising fixtures, and posting team sheets.
- To attend regular meetings with the Head of Football.
- To work closely with the other teaching staff to develop their football knowledge and help them to plan sessions.
- To have pastoral involvement in a Boarding House, including assisting House staff with evening duties on one evening each week. In addition, dependent on experience, there may be the opportunity to act as academic tutor to individual pupils.
- To undertake all reasonable tasks delegated by the Director of Sport and Head of Football.
- To attend staff inset days at the end and beginning of the term as the Head Master shall reasonably require.
Skills and Experience:
Essential
- Possess the following qualifications:
- Level 2 coaching qualification as a minimum.
- Level 3 – UEFA B Licence (or working towards).
- FA Youth Award.
- Educated to a minimum of GCSE standard (or equivalent).
- Experience leading in a sporting environment.
- Playing experience and proven success in football coaching, including player development and team performance.
- An excellent coach able to lead by example and engage pupils with ability to form strong working relationships with pupils, colleagues, and parents.
- Approachable, engaging, and enthusiastic, with the ability to represent the College positively.
- Self-motivated with excellent time management skills with ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Reliable, highly conscientious, and punctual individual with a warm and professional manner to join our sports team.
Desirable
- Possess Level 4 – UEFA A Licence FA coaching qualification.
- Previous experience of working within a school would be an advantage.
