Confined Space/Tank Cleaning Operative

You will support site operations across the UK, completing specialist cleaning, tank preparation and maintenance tasks safely and to procedure. This includes confined space work, pressure jetting, and supporting tank inspection programmes.

Role summary

You will support site operations across the UK, completing specialist cleaning, tank preparation and maintenance tasks safely and to procedure. This includes confined space work, pressure jetting, and supporting tank inspection programmes.

Key responsibilities

Specialist operational work

  • Confined space entry and cleaning (pressure washers and tools)
  • High pressure water jetting up to 7,000 psi
  • UHP jet washing (where qualified)
  • Support the Rail Team with prep for 4-year intermediate and 8-year periodic tank inspections
  • Use and operation of breathing apparatus and gas monitors
  • Basic pipework removal
  • Tank and pipework decommissioning
  • Air-operated cold cutting
  • Manual handling, working at height, and rescue procedures

Daily safety and team duties

  • Follow RAMS and complete Dynamic Risk Assessments when required
  • Use tools safely to remove hazardous materials without unnecessary risk
  • Support site compliance for staff, contractors and visitors
  • Help improve equipment, systems and ways of working to raise safety, quality and efficiency
  • Promote safety, environmental and quality awareness on site
  • Maintain high housekeeping standards
  • Report faults and operational issues to line management as they arise
  • Assist with plant maintenance
  • Complete training as required and support others with training where needed

Requirements

  • IT literate (mobile apps used to receive and action jobs)
  • Able to work away from home regularly (up to 4 nights per week)
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather
  • Flexible working hours when needed
  • Able to work as part of a team or independently
