The role involves delivering outstanding lessons, collaborating on curriculum design, and promoting student leadership. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree, teaching qualification, and experience with KS3.

Role: MYP Language & Literature Teacher
Hours: Part-time role including: 20 hours per week over 3 days, including teaching hours, PPA and MYP meeting time
Terms: Permanent role with a Four months’ probationary period
Reports to: Deputy Head of Secondary
The Role
- Be passionate about the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP) and philosophy.
- Be responsible for the delivery of outstanding lessons.
- Be responsible for the attainment and progress of all learners in their class.
- Be responsible for collaborating on curriculum design, including the development of concept-based, inquiry-driven units to promote students’ creative thinking.
- Be responsible for keeping a record of assessment data to inform teaching and learning.
- Be enthusiastic in promoting student leadership.
- Be able to engage, and differentiate for the needs of, students at all levels.
- Be able to empower students to become confident communicators.
- Be interested in using a constructivist approach to learning and developing autonomous learners.

The candidate
- Bachelor's degree in Education or other relevant degree with teaching qualification
- Preferable, IB teaching experience
- Fluent in English (verbal and written)

- Has experience of teaching KS3

Key Responsibilities
- Professional Knowledge - Demonstrate in depth and accurate knowledge and understanding of the curriculum, subject content and the developmental needs of students by providing relevant learning experiences that set high expectations that enable students’ use of higher level skills as appropriate.
- Instructional Planning- Regularly contribute to curriculum planning and development including interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary units of work and the development of transdisciplinary skills and attributes of the IB learner Profile. Plan using the school’s curriculum, effective strategies and resources to meet the needs of all students ensuring that lessons are well planned with differentiating instructions, engaging content, planned learning is delivered and a love of learning is promoted.
- Instructional Delivery- Effectively engage students in learning by using a variety of differentiated instructional strategies to meet individual student learning needs, including help for students needing additional learning support.
- Assessment for Learning- Systematically gather, analyse and use evidence to measure student progress and learning, guide instruction, provide timely feedback, inform own teaching and support curriculum development so that both students and the school achieve academic excellence.
- Learning Environment- Use resources, routines, and procedures to provide a respectful, positive, safe and student-centred creative and stimulating environment that is conducive to learning. Work collaboratively with colleagues to develop teaching and learning resources for students at different levels to address the students’ learning needs. Include technology in the students’ learning experiences when it provides valid support to the process.

- Communication and Advocacy- Communicate effectively with students, school personnel, families and the community to enhance, promote, and advocate student learning.
- Student Progress- Ensure acceptable and measurable student progress through the setting of appropriate academically stretching goals, with progress being monitored throughout the year and end of year achievement of goals being assessed. Provide a safe and stimulating environment for students, rooted in mutual respect and modelling the behaviour required, to challenge and inspire students of all backgrounds, abilities and dispositions.Give students regular feedback, both orally and written, and encourage students to respond to the feedback, reflect on progress.
Safeguarding
- Promoting and safeguarding the welfare of the students.
- Maintain good order among pupils, managing behaviour effectively to ensure a positive and safe learning environment
- Adhere to any relevant Policies about Keeping Children Safe, ongoing safeguarding, Equal Opportunities, Data Protection and Confidentiality
- Work with the designated safeguarding lead (DSL) to promote the best interests of pupils, including sharing concerns where necessary
