Project Engineer
SKILLS
FULL DESCRIPTION
As a Project Engineer, you will play a central technical role in the delivery of complex hydrogen energy and process systems. Acting as the key engineering interface between disciplines and external stakeholders you will ensure that mechanical, process, electrical and controls designs are integrated into a cohesive and deliverable system and effectively communicate the technical position to clients. While remaining hands-on from a technical perspective, the role focuses on managing and coordinating engineering deliverables across the full lifecycle of a project, from concept design through detailed engineering, manufacture, installation and commissioning.
Role Title

Purpose of Role
As a Project Engineer, you will play a central technical role in the delivery of complex hydrogen energy and process systems. Acting as the key engineering interface between disciplines and external stakeholders you will ensure that mechanical, process, electrical and controls designs are integrated into a cohesive and deliverable system and effectively communicate the technical position to clients. While remaining hands-on from a technical perspective, the role focuses on managing and coordinating engineering deliverables across the full lifecycle of a project, from concept design through detailed engineering, manufacture, installation and commissioning. You will work closely with Project Managers to ensure engineering activities are delivered to the highest level, within scope, on schedule and within budget.
The role requires broad technical awareness across process systems, pressure equipment, instrumentation and controls, allowing you to identify design interfaces, manage technical risks and ensure all disciplines work toward a consistent and compliant system design.
You will also support compliance with relevant industry regulations and standards, including ATEX, DSEAR, PED, and CDM Regulations.
Duties
- Act as primary engineering coordinator for assigned projects, ensuring alignment between process, mechanical, electrical and controls disciplines.
- Primary technical contact with internal and external stakeholders.
- Manage the technical deliverables of projects, ensuring that engineering outputs are produced in accordance with the project schedule, scope and technical requirements.
- Ensuring efficient dissemination of technical requirements and communications to internal and external stakeholders, as well as delivery of thorough technical updates to external customer base and maintain positive relations.
- Work closely with Project Managers to track engineering progress, identify risks, and resolve technical challenges throughout the project lifecycle.
- Ensure system designs are integrated correctly across disciplines, identifying and resolving interface issues between mechanical systems, process requirements, instrumentation and controls.
- Support the development of hydrogen energy systems including compression, storage, dispensing, and supporting balance-of-plant equipment.
- Participate in and coordinate engineering design reviews, ensuring technical quality and consistency across all design deliverables.
- Support and contribute to safety studies including HAZOP, LOPA, and other risk assessments, ensuring actions are captured and implemented within the design.
- Ensure designs comply with relevant regulations and standards including DSEAR, ATEX, PED and CDM Regulations.
- Ensure appropriate hazard identification and risk mitigation measures are embedded into system designs.
- Support the development and review of key engineering documentation including:
- PFDs and P&IDs
- Control Philosophies
- Functional Design Specifications
- O&M documentation
- Certification Supporting Documentation
- Coordinate engineering outputs for procurement activities, including management of BoM’s and specification documentation.
- Work with manufacturing and field teams to ensure that engineered solutions are practical, manufacturable and installable.
- Provide technical support during fabrication, installation and commissioning phases.
- Ensure engineering changes are managed through controlled revision processes and engineering change procedures.• Maintain strong communication with internal teams, contractors and external stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
