Rent Recovery Officer

[Employer hidden — view at passion-project.co.uk] is seeking a Rent Recovery Officer in East London/Essex to manage rent arrears, provide guidance on Universal Credit, and support eviction processes. The role involves setting repayment plans, liaising with housing benefit teams, and preparing evidence for court proceedings.

About the Role

Role: Rent Recovery Officer
Location: East London / Essex

[Employer hidden] are delighted to be working with a well-established independent agency across East London & Essex who are looking for a dynamic and organised Rent Recovery Officer to join their Management Department.

Responsibilities:
- Managing rent arrears and taking prompt recovery action in line with policy
- Providing expert guidance on Universal Credit, including Housing Element claims
- Applying for Alternative Payment Arrangements (APAs) where appropriate
- Conducting affordability assessments and setting sustainable repayment plans
- Preparing evidence for Possession Claims and supporting County Court proceedings
- Liaising with Housing Benefit teams and local authorities
- Supporting eviction processes where recovery efforts have failed

Experience & Knowledge:
- Proven experience in social housing, rent collection or debt recovery
- Strong understanding of Welfare Reform and Universal Credit
- Knowledge of Landlord & Tenant legislation and the Pre-Action Protocol
- Experience assisting tenants with Discretionary Housing Payments (DHPs)

Skills Required:
- Strong negotiation skills with empathy and professionalism
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- IT literate (housing management systems & Microsoft Office)
- High numerical accuracy and attention to detail

Salary:
- £15,000 – £22,500 per annum

Tenure:
- Part Time | Permanent | Office Based
3–4 Day Working Week | 15–20 Hours Per Week
