FULL DESCRIPTION
As a key hire within the personal lines function, the Product Manager acts as the strategic lead and right‑hand support to the Head of Personal Lines. The role takes full ownership of product performance, delegated authority compliance, partner delivery, MI insight, product refinement and the operational oversight needed to ensure the function runs efficiently and effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the strategy, performance and development of the personal lines product portfolio.
- Use MI, underwriting insight and market analysis to drive product decisions and identify commercial opportunities.
- Ensure products remain competitive, compliant and aligned with customer and partner needs.
Delegated Authority & Governance
- Oversee product governance, conduct risk expectations and delegated authority controls.
- Maintain strong documentation, ownership mapping and version control across all products.
Partner & Broker Leadership
- Act as a senior point of contact for brokers, insurers and capacity providers.
- Lead partner discussions on product performance, improvements and contractual obligations.
- Resolve escalated broker or partner issues, driving continuous improvement.
Operational Delivery & Change
- Oversee delivery of product-related change, ensuring clear requirements and successful implementation.
- Work collaboratively across operations, claims, marketing, MI and technology to ensure aligned delivery and robust customer outcomes.
- Champion digital and operational improvements that enhance customer journeys and product efficiency.
Leadership & Team Development
- Provide guidance, direction and support to the Product Analyst, ensuring high-quality output and clear prioritisation.
- Foster a culture of commercial thinking, curiosity and continuous improvement within the product function.
- Set clear expectations and support capability growth across the product team.
Commercial Insight & Reporting
- Oversee MI outputs provided to partners and internal stakeholders, ensuring clarity, accuracy and relevance.
- Highlight risks, trends and opportunities that influence pricing, proposition and product evolution.
- Provide concise insight and recommendations to senior leadership to support strategic decisions.
Experience & Knowledge
- Strong background in product management, underwriting, insurer or MGA environments, ideally within personal lines.
- Travel insurance experience highly beneficial.
- Underwriting background advantageous, particularly within delegated authority settings.
- Deep understanding of underwriting performance, conduct risk and the control frameworks required for consumer insurance products.
- Proven ability to analyse MI, product performance and commercial trends to inform decisions.
- Experience managing relationships with brokers, insurers, capacity providers and senior internal stakeholders.
- Strong operational understanding of digital customer journeys and insurance product transformation.
- Confident operating across product, performance, operations, claims and technology in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience leading or supporting product enhancements, change delivery and partner onboarding.
- Suitable for someone stepping up from a product analyst, product specialist or underwriting development role, or someone already in a product-focused insurance role seeking broader ownership.
- Ideally experience working within an FCA-regulated financial services environment.
