Senior Electrical Design Engineer

£50,000 to £60,000 per annum DOE

Portsmouth

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Electrical Design Engineer to take ownership of electrical systems development across a range of technical projects. This role involves designing, developing, and validating electrical components and systems, from initial concept through to production. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in electrical engineering, hands-on experience with design tools such as SolidWorks Electrical, and the ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer looking to contribute to complex, design-to-order projects in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support electrical design activities for new and existing projects.
  • Develop system schematics, circuit diagrams, wiring lists, and bills of materials.
  • Use SolidWorks Electrical and 2D CAD tools for conceptual design and verification.
  • Review and check design documentation for accuracy and compliance with cost, safety, and schedule requirements.
  • Select electrical and electronic components with consideration for availability, cost, and obsolescence.
  • Participate in and lead design reviews, maintaining up-to-date design files.
  • Identify and communicate technical risks to engineering leadership.
  • Prepare technical documentation and specifications for materials and tooling.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory standards.
  • Support new product introduction (NPI) through prototyping, testing, and design validation.
  • Collaborate across teams to ensure manufacturability and reliable performance.
  • Provide responsive engineering support and assist with rework or training as needed.
