Volunteer Mentor - Ealing (multiple locations)

At [Employer hidden], we believe in the power of a single spark of connection to ignite potential and change lives. We are a national charity, passionate about ensuring every young person has someone to help them find their way to a brighter future, whenever and wherever they need us. We are looking for volunteer mentors to join our award-winning programme and make a profound difference. By dedicating just one hour a week, you become a trusted adult mentor who walks beside a young person, helping to spark their confidence, fuel their ambition, and awaken their potential. Every connection formed tells a unique story. Through consistency, trust, and a shared passion (whether it’s football, chess, or just a listening ear), you help a young person overcome barriers, build lasting strength, and plan their next move. It's the all-important voltage behind truly changing lives. As a Volunteer Mentor, you will: - Meet face to face with a young person, one hour per week during school hours, and for at least a year. - Offer guidance, encouragement, and a listening ear to help them build confidence and set personal goals. - Support the development of skills for education, work, and life. - Be a consistent, positive role model, helping them overcome barriers and broaden their horizons. Could you dedicate an hour a week to help a young person see their incredible potential? Find a school near you: https://mcrpathways.org/become-a-mentor/

This simple intervention of mentoring can be absolutely transformational for the young person. Having a consistent adult figure in a young person's life, to listen and support, is proven to positively impact on the life chances of that young person. You can be this difference to the young person, to encourage and champion, and to help them reach a positive pathway following their secondary education. Mentoring not only helps the young person, as it can also have a positive impact on both the skills development and mental well-being of the mentor.

No prior experience is necessary, just the ability to be able to communicate with a young person, to build trust and a relationship that can be life-changing. This is an opportunity for people from all walks of life, and the carefully structured on-boarding process helps us in being able to find the optimum match between the mentor and the young person. [Employer hidden] will apply for a DBS on behalf of successful candidates at no cost for you, and we require 2 references as well.

Once a volunteer registers, we will conduct a detailed one to one conversation to find out more about that individual and their life and work experience and hobbies and interest - helping us to identify the best match we can with the young person. Full training is provided during the on-boarding, and also on an ongoing basis via access to both live and online support. We also host periodic peer to peer mentor meetings, to help build a community of volunteers and to provide programme and charity updates

Mentoring helps to improve mental well-being and self worth, and develops active listening, empathy, and relationship building skills. These can be applied in any situation, including the workplace.
