Befriending clients in the community
Come and join our team of over 500 fantastic FED volunteers! We are in need of volunteers to visit clients in their own homes in the Jewish community across Greater Manchester. Whether you have an hour or two a week or an hour or so a month - we need YOU! You can make a difference to the lives of those who are lonely and isolated, of all ages - through chatting, playing games, going for a walk, reminiscing, and simply being together. We will be led by you - do you want to support children, young people, people living with mental health, people who are having a temporary set back, older people, carers, people living with physical illness, residents in our care home? Befriending takes all forms - we will find the perfect role for you.
What difference you will make
The Fed is the community's safety net, providing support and services to 1 in 7 homes. With your support we will continue to deliver outstanding services to ensure vulnerable Jewish people continue to feel safe, valued and cared for. Last year our volunteers provided over 35,000 hours of support yet we still need more - no one should have no one.
What additional skills or experience you should have
All volunteers are required to attend interview, induction, provide 2 references and undergo DBS checks. Preferred skills are empathy, patience, kindness and great communication and listening skills But our experienced staff are with you every step of the way so whether you're new to volunteering or have many years experience, we will find the right role for you.
What training we will provide for you
A 3 hour group induction training is compulsory. We then offer optional further training awareness sessions inc. around dementia, mental health, first aid.
What you will get out of volunteering for us
Volunteering is good for you - both physically and mentally. And when you volunteer with The Fed you have the option of trying a wide variety of tasks and meeting a broad range of people. You can learn new skills, boost your confidence, and add the experience to your CV. Above all you are doing a great deed and making a difference in the world.
