FULL DESCRIPTION

Volunteer in Heathlands Village

To befriend residents at Heathlands Village Care Home. There are a variety of roles available from chatting to a resident in the lounges to taking part in art, music, singing or games in the activity centre to helping serve tea or even being a mealtime companion. Knowing that you can use your listening skills, empathy and life experience to enhance the lives of vulnerable residents makes this a hugely worthwhile opportunity. Our residents have a range of needs, the majority have some form of dementia, and most have a mobility need.

What difference you will make

There is so much to learn from helping someone who is vulnerable and with different needs to your own. Our wonderful residents have incredible insights, words of wisdom or just beautiful smiles. Building a rapport with our residents has health benefits too - reducing cortisol and stress and increasing seratonin- the feel good hormone! Spending time to enhance their lives and their experiences in the comfort of our care home is a fantastic opportunity for you and for them.

What additional skills or experience you should have

Preferred skills include being a great listener, taking instruction well, showing empathy, care and respect. You will be expected to adhere to The Fed's policies and procedures as set out in the volunteer handbook.

What training we will provide for you

The process of coming on board as a volunteer can take around 6 weeks and includes being interviewed, receiving 2 references, undergoing a DBS check and attending induction training. We operate a professional volunteering service and continue to support you every step of the way throughout your volunteering role with us. Further training might be given for specific tasks and food hygiene and dysphagia training must be undertaken for feeding roles.

What you will get out of volunteering for us

You will get a sense of fulfilment knowing you are doing good and feeling good about it. You will meet new people and gain new experiences. This opportunity increases your skills and broadens your social interactions.
