Gardening volunteer
Enjoy being outdoors, getting your hands in the soil, and doing something that really matters? As a Gardening Volunteer at Willesden Jewish Cemetery, you’ll help care for a beautiful green space, support wildlife, and play a hands-on role in protecting a historic landscape — all while learning new skills and meeting like-minded people. Your main tasks will include: - During Spring and Summer months weeding key areas in the grounds. - Looking after planted areas, from wild flowers to bird-friendly aggregates, ground-hugging green plants and an area where pesticide use has been stopped and now requires weeding by hand. - Assisting in seasonal gardening tasks throughout the year. This may include planting, sowing, tidying, weeding, dead-heading, pruning, sweeping, mulching, feeding, watering and clearing away trimmings. - Monitoring bird and bat boxes and insect hotels. - Helping to evaluate the project’s effectiveness by monitoring and recording the development of newly planted and areas for their ease of maintenance and impact on nature conservation. Monitoring paperwork and cameras will be provided and volunteers will be trained on how to evaluate progress.
