Drive members in your own vehicle, from their homes to our Sandringham Campus in Stanmore, and/or return journey. The centre is open Mon-Thurs 10.00 - 3.00
What difference you will make
Helping members access the day centre in Stanmore is a lifeline. This day out can be the difference between sitting alone isolated and spending a day with others, socialising learning new skills and enjoying a hot meal in company rather than in silence at home. It improves their wellbeing immeasurably and also enables a family carer to gain much-needed respite. This is not just a journey, you can become an important part of the members life. Chatting enroute is another way to make friends. You will make people feel listened to cared about.
What additional skills or experience you should have
- A clean driving licence
- Fit and well enough to help the client access the car
- A can - do attitude
- A happy, confident and positive demeanour.
- Confidently engage with a diverse range of people and enjoy helping others.
- A strong understanding and of issues that affect people in later life.
- Reliability, consistency and dependability.
- Good conversational and listening skills with a clear speaking voice.
- Patience, empathy and a non-judgemental attitude.
- The ability to work independently but also stay within the role’s boundaries – recognising what should and shouldn’t be done and when to seek advice or report concerns.
What training we will provide for you
Training is available so volunteers can carry out their roles to the highest professional standards, develop new skills, build confidence, make new friends and take on new and increasingly responsible tasks.

- Manual handling training
- Provide you with access to a Volunteer Handbook and all Policies and Procedures.
- Provide Induction Training: Getting to know [Employer hidden], Communication & Disability Awareness, Boundaries & Confidentiality, Safeguarding, Health & Safety, GDPR.
- Provide on the job induction.
