FULL DESCRIPTION

Light gardening at historic site (April to September 2026)

Volunteers will help care for Willesden Jewish Cemetery, a historic and still-active burial ground, by taking part in light outdoor maintenance and tidy-up activities. Tasks may include: Gentle weeding and clearing around graves and pathways Tidying planted areas and communal spaces Leaf clearing and seasonal garden care Helping maintain a respectful, welcoming environment for visitors You can volunteer as a one-off, weekly for an hour, for a half day, or for a full day, between April and September. Activities are flexible and suitable for individuals, families, community groups, and colleagues.

By volunteering, you will help preserve an important site of Jewish heritage and memory, ensuring it remains cared for, dignified, and welcoming for families, visitors, and future generations. Your time directly supports our charitable aims of community care (chesed shel emet), heritage preservation, and public engagement, while helping us look after a much-loved green space.

No prior experience is required.
This role is suitable for:

Individuals, families (including parent & child volunteering), and groups

People who enjoy being outdoors and doing light physical activity

Volunteers who are happy to work respectfully in a cemetery setting

What training we will provide for you

We will provide:

A short on-site induction

Guidance on working respectfully in a Jewish cemetery

Health and safety briefing

Ongoing support from staff and experienced volunteers

All tools and equipment will be provided.
